Ducks Drop Road Contest to No. 18 USC
03/26/23 | Women's Lacrosse
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Oregon dropped its second consecutive road game in conference play in a 14-4 defeat to USC.
During Sunday afternoon's matchup, the Ducks (3-6) could not match the Trojans' (8-2) offensive output.
"USC is a great opponent," said head coach Chelsea Hoffmann following the loss. "Their defense today was tough to beat and we needed to create more possession off draw controls and saves."

How it Happened: Oregon scored the opening goal for the first time in Pac-12 play behind a solo effort from freshman Rachel Pallo. The Trojans responded quickly to the early deficit, scoring the next five goals to claim a 5-1 lead after the first period.
USC would extend their lead behind what would be a 7-0 run for the Trojans to make it a 7-1 game. Alyssa Wright scored the Ducks' only goal of the quarter with a tremendous solo effort through contact. USC would close out the quarter with another three goals to put Oregon at a 10-2 disadvantage.

The Trojans continued their momentum into the second half, expanding their lead behind an eventual 7-0 run that lasted the entirety of the third period. Entering the final quarter, the Ducks trailed 14-2.
Sophomore Haley Taylor broke the USC run with her ninth goal of the season to open the fourth for the Ducks. Morgan McCarthy added to the scoring with her 20th goal of the 2023 campaign.

Notable: McCarthy now sits at 10th in UO history for draw controls with 111 in her career … Taylor finished with multiple points for the fifth time this season … McCarthy raised her goal-scoring streak to 20 games dating back to last season.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Papé Field on Saturday, April 1, for a showdown with Colorado (4 p.m. PDT, Pac-12 Oregon/Mountain).
