EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon volleyball team picked two AVCA all-region accolades Tuesday including Northwest Region Freshman of the Year honors for Alanah Clemente. She and UO teammate Valentina Vaulet also earned spots on the All-Northwest Region First Team.
Oregon is one of three teams in the region to have multiple players on the 14-player first team, along with Minnesota and South Dakota State. Tuesday's AVCA announcement adds to the awards collection for Clemente and Vaulet who were both named to the All-Big Ten First Team last week.
Clemente joins past UO standouts Brooke Nuneviller (2018) and Mimi Colyer (2022) as the third region freshman of the year in program history. Clemente, previously honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, averaged 4.73 points per set and 3.89 kills per set to go along with 51 service aces during her first collegiate campaign.
With Tuesday's release, Vaulet earns the first all-region certificate of her career. The UO junior leads the Big Ten with 56 service aces this season, and in a transition from opposite to outside hitter, established career highs in kills (371), points (456.5) and hitting percentage (.268).
Introduced last season in conjunction with conference realignment, the AVCA placed its programs in 10 regions based on state lines instead of league affiliation. The Northwest Region consists of teams from Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington. Prior to the change, the Ducks were members of the Pacific North Region.
Oregon finished the season, its first under head coach Trent Kersten, at 17-13 overall with an 8-12 mark in Big Ten play including ranked wins against Minnesota, Purdue and UCLA.
