03/08/25 | Softball
Play continues in the Jane Sanders Classic on Sunday for Oregon, which lost for just the second time this season Saturday.
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon softball team will look to start another winning streak when the Jane Sanders Classic continues Sunday, after the Ducks suffered just their second loss of the season Saturday.
The No. 12 Ducks (21-2) saw their 16-game win streak come to an end with a loss to Oregon State at Jane Sanders Stadium on Saturday. Oregon fell behind early, rallied to tie it but then saw the Beavers score three runs in the sixth to win 5-2.
Oregon struck out eight times and managed only one earned run off OSU starter Logan Hulon.
"She did a good job of getting us to chase out of the zone," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "A lot of our outs we struck out or popped up; we needed to do a better job of getting on top or taking the pitch. …
"I'm excited to see how we respond tomorrow. We just didn't make our in-game adjustments soon enough."
How It Happened: Taylour Spencer got the start in the circle for the Ducks and stranded runners at the corners in the top of the first. Kai Luschar led off the bottom of the inning with a single and stole two bases, but she too was left on third base to end the inning.
A single and a two-run homer gave Oregon State the lead in the top of the second. The Ducks stranded two runners in each of the next two innings, finally breaking through when two runners reached on balls hit to third base in the fourth and Remmington Hewitt followed with a fly ball to left field on which two Beavers collided, allowing both runners to score.
Elise Sokolsky relieved Spencer in the third and kept the game tied, passing the ball to Lyndsey Grein after a leadoff single in the sixth. Grein, one of the heroes of Friday's win over Florida State, struck out the first batter she faced but then walked three straight to force in the go-ahead run. A two-out double brought two more Beavers home.
Notable: Luschar's two steals in the first gave her 73 in her career, third-most in UO history. … Kedre Luschar's single in the third extended her hit streak to 10 games. … Saturday's crowd of 2,431 was the largest so far this season.
Up Next: The Jane Sanders Classic continues for the Ducks on Sunday with games against Florida State at 2:30 p.m. and Abilene Christian at 5 p.m.
