Furious Comeback Leads to Road Win
04/11/25 | Women's Lacrosse
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Oregon lacrosse team used an 8-0 scoring run in the second half to earn its first road win of the season, beating Eastern Michigan 13-11 on Friday afternoon.
The Ducks (6-8, 0-6 Big Ten) trailed by as many as five in the second half, but used dominance on the draw and lockdown defense to spur the game-changing scoring run. UO outscored Eastern Michigan (6-7, 2-2 MAC) 8-2 in the final 30 minutes of play.
Seven Ducks tallied goals on the afternoon, led by three from Bri Carrasquillo and two each from Alex Matsuoka, Emma Ing and Rachel Pallo. Lyla Hurley led the squad with three assists to go along with a goal of her own, while Carrasquillo added two assists.
Paige Crowther earned her fifth win of the season in goal, making seven saves.
Oregon led in total shots, 30-26, and held a 16-12 advantage in draw controls, securing nine of the 12 DCs in the second half. The Ducks also caused ten turnovers, their fourth game this season causing ten or more.
How It Happened: Eastern Michigan put the first tally up on the scoreboard, but Hurley was able to quickly answer with her 15th score of the season, pushing her streak of consecutive games with a point to 12. After EMU scored two more goals, Ing was able to draw the foul and fire home the free position shot for her 10th of the season. Matsuoka joined the scoring column, slotting one home from the right side off the feed from Hurley, but the Ducks trailed 5-3 heading into the second quarter.
After two goals by the Eagles to start the second quarter, Carrasquillo scored her team-leading 34th goal of the season, capitalizing on a stellar find from freshman Hazel Baker. Carrasquillo then added an assist of her own, finding Pallo for her eighth score of the year, but EMU net the last two goals of the quarter to take a 9-5 lead into the locker room.
EMU once again opened the scoring with an early goal, but the rest of the quarter belonged to Oregon. Kylee Manser and Jenae Sperling tallied their first goals of the day before Matsuoka scored her second to bring the Ducks within two. Ing scored her second of the afternoon off the third assist from Hurley and Carrasquillo pulled the Ducks even with her second score.
Not satisfied with a tie game, the graduate student found the back of the net for a third time with six seconds left on the clock to give the Ducks their first lead of the day, 11-10.
Pallo and Manser each scored their second of the game to kick off the fourth, pushing the Duck lead to three. EMU snap the Oregon run with five minutes remaining, but the Duck defense was able to keep the Eagles at bay until the clock zeroed out. UO allowed just four shots on goal in the second half and just two in the fourth quarter after the Ducks had taken the lead.
Notable: The win snaps a six-game losing streak … Pallo has scored eight goals in the last four games after scoring once in the first ten outings this year … The junior added four draw controls today, bringing her season total up to 83, the second most in program history in a single season … During her 12-game point streak, Hurley has tallied 14 goals and 11 assists … Oregon improves to 6-2 on the season when winning the draw control battle … UO's six assists are its most in a game this season.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Big Ten play when they face No. 3 Northwestern on Sunday (11 a.m. PT, B1G+).
