Ducks Rally To Win Rivalry Series
04/16/25 | Softball
Oregon came from behind in the seventh Wednesday to beat OSU and win the season series.
CORVALLIS — Entering the biggest series of the regular season, Oregon softball maintained momentum Wednesday with a rivalry win that again showcased the Ducks' impressive depth.
The No. 5 Ducks (39-4) rallied from two runs down to beat Oregon State on the road, 5-3, and win the three-game season series with the Beavers. Freshman Emma Cox drove in three runs, two on a go-ahead single in the seventh inning, and Taylour Spencer and Lyndsey Grein combined to get the last 11 outs as Oregon rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the fourth.
Oregon was outhit, 10-5, but played errorless defense for the fourth straight game and came up clutch yet again to come from behind. The Ducks didn't have an extra-base hit, with a couple of fly balls caught just in front of the fence early in the game.
"We hit some balls hard that didn't go the way we wanted to go, and then they hit some balls hard and they had some balls that fell in, and that's just the way it is," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "Every game is gonna look different; you look at the series and each game and what it looks like, and it looks totally different every game. So you've just gotta stay in the moment and know that we're gonna win."

The win was Oregon's fourth straight entering a monumental matchup this weekend at Jane Sanders Stadium against No. 6 UCLA. The two teams enter the series tied for the Big Ten Conference lead at 12-1.
How It Happened: The Beavers used three singles and two walks to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first, taking the early lead. The Ducks got a run back in the top of the fourth, loading the bases on a single and two errors before Katie Flannery reached on a fielder's choice that scored pinch runner Regan Legg.
To that point Elise Sokolsky had been cruising after relieving UO starter Staci Chambers in the first, but the Beavers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. OSU put two runners in scoring position with one out, and an RBI single made it 3-1 to end Sokolsky's outing.
In came Spencer, who got the last two outs without allowing another run, then pitched a 1-2-3 fifth. It was her longest scoreless outing since Feb. 21.
"It meant a lot, just because the past few weeks my outings haven't been the best," Spencer said. "Just being able to come out and pick up Elise and Staci and be able to keep my team in the game until Lyndsey's turn, I think that was pretty big. And I really enjoyed that."
By the time Spencer entered the circle for the bottom of the fifth, Oregon was within 3-2. In the top of the inning, Paige Sinicki singled with one out, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Cox.
Grein entered the game with two on and none out in the sixth, and retired the next three hitters in order. That set the stage for more late-inning dramatics by the Ducks.
The seventh inning began with Kai Luschar narrowly beating out a single to third base. Sinicki was then hit by a pitch, and Kedre Luschar walked to load the bases.
"We got one leadoff on, and it was in the seventh," Lombardi said. "So to finally get our leadoff on, and then from there have the ability to pass the bat and these guys come up clutch, was huge for us."

That brought Cox up with the bases loaded and no outs. She faced a two-strike count after taking a pitch for strike two, then went to the opposite field for a go-ahead single that scored Kai Luschar and Sinicki.
"I just reminded myself, like, let's control what I can control," Cox said of her approach after taking strike two. "And before I walked up there, that I was just grateful for the opportunity. There's a lot of girls that want to do this — play their rival school and come up with the bases loaded and no outs. Like, that's just fun. So I was just trying to let loose, have a good time and just do the best that I could."
Rylee McCoy followed with a sacrifice fly to score Kedre Luschar, and Oregon led 5-3. Grein walked the leadoff batter in the bottom of the inning, then struck out the next two batters before a two-out single put runners at the corners. That brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Grein struck her out as well to preserve Oregon's comeback.
Notable: Cox is 5-for-9 with five RBIs since returning from injury last Friday at Minnesota. … Oregon's 39-4 start is the best record through 43 games in program history.
Up Next: The Ducks open a three-game series a home against UCLA on Friday (7 p.m., Big Ten Network).
