Ducks Even Rivalry Series with 9-1 Win
04/02/25 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Stefini Ma'ake homered twice and Elise Sokolsky threw a one-hitter to lead No. 6 Oregon past Oregon State, 9-1, Wednesday at Kelly Field.
The Beavers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third, but Sokolsky limited the damage to one run on a sacrifice fly. The next inning, Ma'ake hit the second of her two home runs and the Ducks never looked back.
The win evened the season series at 1-1 including OSU's 5-2 win in Eugene on March 8.
"We just had to flip the switch," said Ma'ake. "We were not going to let them beat us twice.
"I just focused on seeing the ball down, not seeing the ball out of the zone and I was able to get some good swings."
The Ducks scored in each of the last four innings to pull away from OSU.
"I feel like it's personal every year not just because it's a rivalry but what happens between the lines," said Sokolsky. "It just gets pretty competitive.
"So it was really cool to be able to come to their place and take a win from them. Awesome team win."
Sokolsky gave up one run on one hit and struck out six in complete game effort to improve to 9-1.
How It Happened: Ma'ake's 11th home run of the season gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. After battling back from an 0-2 count, Ma'ake drilled a 3-2 pitch out to left center.
OSU loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a single and two walks with one out. After a visit from coach Melyssa Lombardi, Sokolsky retired the next two batters, allowing just one run to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly.
"I wanted to see her get out of that jam and then be able to come back and make a couple of in-game adjustments and finish the game," said Lombardi. "I thought Elise just got better and better as the game went along."
Ma'ake's second home run of the game gave the Ducks a three-run lead in the top of the fourth.
Kedre Luschar led off the inning with her team-leading 11th double of the season. Dezianna Patmon sacrificed Luschar to third and reached base herself on a fielding error by the pitcher.
Braiesey Rosa's sacrifice fly to center scored Luschar and give the Ducks a 2-1 lead.
Ma'ake followed with a high drive that bounced off the top of the wall in left and over the fence for a two-run home run and the Ducks led 4-1. It was her 12th homer of the season.
Oregon added on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Paige Sinicki led off the top of the fifth with a double that extended her career-best hitting streak to 10 games. She moved to third on Rylee McCoy's fly out and then scored on Katie Flannery's single to make it 5-1.
In the sixth inning, Rosa reached on a fielder's choice. Regan Legg pinch ran for Rosa before Ma'ake singled into left field, her third hit of the game. Legg then moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kaylynn Jones' sacrifice fly.
The Ducks tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning. Sinicki led off with a bunt single and stole second. McCoy's single scored Sinicki for a 7-1 lead.
Luschar singled to give the Ducks two runners on board and both scored on an error at third base.
