Ducks’ Upset Bid Falls Short at UW
04/05/25 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – Oregon gave No. 21 Washington all it could handle on Saturday afternoon, but the Huskies managed to hang on for a 4-2 victory in the rivalry match at Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium.
Despite not claiming the doubles point, Oregon (8-10, 1-8) got singles victories from Tilde Jagare and Juliet Santitto to claw within a point of the Huskies (16-2, 8-1) at 3-2. The final two singles matches remaining were both in a third and final set before UW's McKenna Koenig clinched the final point on court four.
Jagare overcame a 6-1 loss in her first set with Alexia Jacobs to win the next two 6-0, 7-5. The win marked Jagare's team-leading 10th of the spring dual season and third in Big Ten play.
After picking up her first collegiate singles victory last Friday against Indiana, Santitto has now rattled off three straight wins after her 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 over Carina Syrtveit.
Half of the six singles matches went into a third set, including Marjorie Souza at No. 1. Souza battled the nation's 110th-ranked player in Reece Carter, winning the second set 6-4 after dropping the first but the match went unfinished after UW claimed its fourth team point of the day.
Eight of Oregon's 10 losses have come to ranked opponents, including seven of eight conference losses. Next up, the Ducks travel east to take on Michigan on Saturday (9 a.m. PT) and Michigan State Sunday (7:30 a.m. PT).
