Regional Path Gets Tougher After Loss
05/17/25 | Softball
Oregon dropped a matchup with Stanford early Saturday, setting up another game in the Eugene Regional later in the day.
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon softball team will have to take a long and winding path in order to reach NCAA Super Regionals.
The No. 6 Ducks (48-8) ceded the driver's seat of the Eugene Regional with a 14-1 loss to No. 17 Stanford in six innings on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium. Oregon moved into an elimination game later Saturday against either Binghamton or Weber State, needing to win that one and then beat the Cardinal twice Sunday to advance to Super Regionals.
How It Happened: The Ducks used four pitchers on the afternoon, all of which were touched for runs by the Cardinal. Stanford scored single runs in the first and second innings off UO starter Elise Sokolsky (15-4), got two more off Friday night's winner for the Ducks, Lyndsey Grein, then exploded for nine runs in the sixth off two relievers to set up the run-rule win.

Oregon's defense committed two errors that each led to unearned runs, and offensively the Ducks managed three hits — all by freshmen. They had two on and one out in the first without the benefit of a hit, but both runners were stranded.
Freshman Kaylynn Jones provided the first UO hit, a single with two out in the second. Two more freshmen contributed to Oregon's run — Emma Cox walked with one out in the fourth, and Stefini Ma'ake singled in pinch-runner Regan Legg after Legg advanced on a wild pitch.

Freshman Rylee McCoy led off the sixth with a single, but the next three hitters were retired in order to end the game.
Notable: Oregon lost a regional game at home for the first time. ... The Ducks are now 22-1 all-time in regional play at home. … Grein allowed an earned run by a top-25 opponent for the first time this season.
Up Next: The Ducks face Binghamton or Weber State on Saturday night, 35 minutes after the conclusion of their elimination game that began at 4:20 p.m.
