EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon lacrosse midfielder Anna Simmons has been named the Big Ten Conference Midfielder of the Week after leading the Ducks to a 12-11 overtime win against Arizona State in the season opener last Saturday.
Simmons led the offensive charge in a massive comeback victory last Saturday, scoring three goals to cap the Ducks' 6-0 scoring run at the end of regulation play. The Washington native secured the sudden-death win for Oregon, netting her fourth score of the day off a free-position shot with 15 seconds on the clock in overtime.
One of Oregon's four team captains, Simmons went 2-for-2 on free position shots, picked up five draw controls and forced two caused turnovers against the Sun Devils while making her 32nd consecutive start as a Duck.
"Scoring the game-winner in overtime is exactly who Anna Simmons is – tough, fearless and relentless," head coach Jessica Drummond said. "When the moment came, I knew she would deliver. She is the grittiest, most hardworking player I have ever coached and her competitive spirit shows up when we need it most. This recognition is a reflection of the work she puts in every day."
This marks the fourth career weekly award for Simmons, who was recognized in three consecutive weeks last season. Simmons was also named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list ahead of the 2026 season for the second time in her career. Last year, Simmons was one of seven players nationally to tally 30-plus goals, 21-plus ground balls and 15-plus caused turnovers.
Simmons and the Ducks head on the road for a pair of games in California, where they will face FDU in a neutral-site game and San Diego State at Aztec Field on Feb. 14 and Feb. 16 respectively.
