Ducks Lose Game One of the Michigan Series
04/02/26 | Baseball
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — For the first time this season, No. 15 Oregon has lost consecutive games after Michigan handed the Ducks a 10-0, 7-inning, defeat on Thursday afternoon at Ray Fisher Stadium.
Oregon (23-7, 7-3 Big Ten) struggled both on the mound and at the plate after traveling from Eugene on Wednesday after dropping a game vs. Portland on Tuesday night. The series with Michigan (15-13, 4-6 Big Ten) was moved from a Friday through Sunday schedule to a Thursday through Saturday schedule because of impending bad weather in the forecast on Sunday.
The Ducks managed just three hits while getting shutout. On the mound, three Ducks' pitchers combined to allow 10 earned runs while issuing four walks and two hit-by-pitches in six innings.
How It Happened: After a second-inning solo home run put Michigan on top 1-0, the wheels fell off in the third inning for starter Will Sanford (4-1). After getting the first hitter to fly out, Sanford hit the next batter and then walked the next two to load the bases. A ground out to second scored a run to make it 2-0. Noah Miller, who hit the solo home run in the previous inning, lined a two-run single to center field for a 4-0 lead.
After another walk and a wild pitch on a strikeout loaded the bases, Oregon turned to reliever Tanner Bradley who gave up a soft two-run looping single over second baseman Ryan Cooney's outstretched arm to make it 6-0.
The Wolverines added another run in the fourth and three more in the sixth to put the 10-run role into play heading into the seventh inning.
Box Score Notes: With his first inning base hit, Jax Gimenez extended his reached base streak to 20 games, the second longest by a Duck this season … Gimenez, Cooney and Drew Smith each had one hit … Bradley tossed just 0.1 innings leaving him available to pitch in the remainder of the series … Oregon was shutout in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2022 season when the Ducks dropped a 4-0 decision at Oregon State on May 8 and then fell to UC San Diego 3-0 at PK Park on May 10.
On Deck: The Ducks will look to even the series on Friday when the two teams meet at 1 p.m. (PT). The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
