Men?s Golf Finishes Ninth at Husky Invitational

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Jimmy White, a senior an South Eugene High graduate, shot a final round 75 to finish tied for 13th at 5-over 221 Tuesday at the Opus Northwest Husky Invitational, played on the par-72, 7,035-yard Olympic Course at Gold Mountain.

As a team, Oregon finished ninth. Washington won the even at 7-over 1,087, followed by San Diego State at 1,108, No. 3 UCLA at 1,111, and No. 17 Brigham Young and Washington State tied for fourth at 1,117. No. 4 California led the second five at 1,119, with Oregon State (1,120), Fresno State (1,124), Oregon (1,129) and Japan's Tohoku Fukushi (1,132) rounding our the field.

"I think we're a little tired right now but I don't consider that an excuse," said Oregon coach Steve Nosler. "We were right in there and had a chance to make a move but we didn't get it done today. We get a little break in our schedule now that should give us a chance to rest and get our feet back under us and we'll be ready for Cal's tournament in two weeks."

Senior Mike Sica closed with his best round of the tournament, an even-par 72, to climb into a tie for 29th in the final standings at 10-over 226. Sophomore Justin St. Clair of Springfield, Ore., and freshman Dustin Pewarchuk tied for 32nd at 11-over 227

The 54-hole Husky Invitational required teams to compete six golfers and count the top five scores from each round. Usually tournaments are a five-count-four format.

Oregon next returns to the links for the Oct. 13-14 Alister Mackenzie Intercollegiate in Fairfax, Calif.
