CLEARWATER, Fla. ? The win streak continued for the 14th-ranked University of Oregon softball team as the Ducks downed Jacksonville University 4-1 at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., Friday morning. Oregon remains perfect at the tournament and is now 16-4 overall this season while the Dolphins dropped to 8-15.
Senior Jenn Poore finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while Ashley Richards was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore pitcher Amy Harris (3-1) went the distance for Oregon, striking out seven and allowing just three hits. Katie Buell (0-1) took the loss. "I like the fact that were continuing to play with intensity and not having a let down," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "We have been playing to win and going out with a lot of fire and confidence." Jacksonville third baseman Sonja Cadarette drove in shortstop Dianna Korcak with a blooper to center field to put the Dolphins up 1-0 after the first inning. With a 2-2 count in the top of the second inning, junior Erin Goodell put the squeeze on, bunting safely to score freshman Ann Marie Topps and even the score, 1-1. Poore then smacked a line drive to score first baseman Kristi Leiter and give the Ducks the lead, 2-1. Boskovich hit her first career triple ? an RBI shot to the right center field gap ? that scored Richards in the third inning and Poore added her fourth home run of the season in the fourth to extend the Ducks' lead to 4-1. Oregon is in the midst of the longest winning streak in school history, surpassing its 11 consecutive wins in 1989. At 16-4, the Ducks are off to their best start since the 1989 season (22-4). Northwestern and Oregon face off at 10 a.m. PST Friday morning.
