Ducks Shut Down Aggies 15-5

DAVIS, Calif. ? Oregon responded in commanding style on Sunday afternoon, defeating conference foe UC Davis, 15-5, at Aggie Stadium.

The Ducks improve to 1-1 on the year overall as well as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, after suffering a heartbreaking 8-7 loss at Stanford on Friday night.

Oregon dominated in every facet of the game against the Aggies, outshooting UC Davis 34-21, winning draw controls, 12-10 and ground balls, 18-11.

The Ducks had a 6-3 lead at halftime, after seniors Jen May and Lindsay Killian put Oregon ahead by two goals in the first four minutes of the contest. Before the 15-minute mark, the Ducks had a 4-1 advantage as freshman Anna Swicklik and junior Cara Mead added scores.

Oregon put the result away in the second half, scoring seven unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Junior goalkeeper Anna Popnyak totaled 11 saves on the afternoon, shutting out the Aggies for the game's final 20 minutes.

The senior trio of Jana Bradley, Theresa Waldron and Killian led Oregon with two goals apiece, while junior Casey Rector as well as Mead and Swicklik each scored two as well.

The Ducks now hold a 3-2 series lead against the Aggies, and are an undefeated 2-0 playing in Davis.

After its first two games of 2008, 11 different players have recorded goals for Oregon, led by junior Ilsa van den Berg (3), Bradley (3) and Rector (3).

The Ducks have a two-week break before their next competition. Oregon will again be on the road, traveling to Virginia Tech (Friday, Feb. 22) and Richmond (Sunday, Feb. 24).
