03/16/08 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. ? The 18th-ranked Oregon Ducks had eight different players find the back of the net in a 17-10 victory over Columbia at Pape' Field on Sunday afternoon.
Oregon improves to 7-2 on the year, while the Lions fall to an even 3-3.
Junior Ilsa van den Berg led the Ducks with four goals, while Lindsay Killian and Jana Bradley each added three, and Alex Breiner and Theresa Waldron added two apiece.
“On offense we really varied our shots,” head coach Jen Larsen said. “The variation we had in attacking the goal helped us.”
The Ducks outshot Columbia 34-25, as the Lions were led by Brittany Shannon's three scores.
Oregon also forced Columbia into 11 turnovers during the game.
The Ducks scored eight unanswered goals to end the first half, taking a 9-2 lead at the break.
“I had a good start,” Killian said of scoring three goals in the first six minutes. “Our offense started well. I saw opportunities and I took them, and luckily my shots were working well today.”
Oregon opened the second half, scoring three of the first four goals of the second half, before the Lions ended the game putting a total of eight goals in the net during the final 30 minutes.
Oregon used both its goalkeepers in the game, as junior Anna Poponyak made seven first-half saves. Sophomore Sam Debow made six saves in the second half. Emma Mirtz manned the goal for the Lions, making seven saves in 60 minutes.
The Ducks return to the field on Saturday, playing Johns Hopkins in San Diego at 1 p.m.
