BALTIMORE -- The University of Oregon women's lacrosse team earned a road split and evened its overall record in the process, defeating Stony Brook University by an 11-8 count in a neutral site after.
The Ducks (2-2), who were led by freshman attacker Catherine Davidson's first career three-goal effort, jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the opening period and cruised from there.
"We had a good team effort all over the field with tenacious defense in the midfield," said head coach Jen Larsen.
Davidson, UO's lone in-state product (Lake Oswego/St. Mary's Academy), had one of the Ducks' dozen goals in the first half and capped her day with a hat-trick at the 19:30 mark of the second, putting the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) side on top 9-3.
Oregon also received three-point games from Alex Breiner and Ilsa van den Berg, who tallied two goals and one assist each.
Anna Poponyak went the distance between the pipes, recording five of her seven saves after halftime.
Kaitlin Leggio was Stony Brook's top scorer, potting three goals. SBU (0-3) scored five of its eight goals in the game's final 12:21.
Alicia Burkhart had a pair of goals and Jess Drummond had two helpers for UO, who bounced back strong after Friday's 15-7 setback at No. 9 North Carolina.
Oregon now embarks on its longest in-season layoff before hosting MPSF newcomer Fresno State March 6 on Pape' Field.
