EUGENE ? The No. 29 University of Oregon women's golf team stood in second place Monday after the opening two rounds of the 15th Oregon Duck Invitational, hosted at Shadow Hills Country Club north of Eugene.
The Ducks stood in second place in the 12-team field (301-303-604), only eight strokes behind No. 28 San Francisco (first, 291-30-592).
No. 62 Oregon State followed in third place (308-302-610), ahead of No. 66 Missouri (fourth, 313-303-616) and No. 57 UC Davis (320-302-622). Other teams on hand included No. 75 Wisconsin (sixth, 312-323-635), Illinois (seventh, 320-316-636), No. 69 Washington State (eighth, 327-312-639), UC Riverside (ninth, 327-326-653), Portland State (10th, 333-326-659), Montana (11th-tie, 331-333-664) and Portland (11th-t, 329-335-664).
Individually for UO, sophomore Kendra Little and freshman Ashley Edwards stood tied for third overall with the exact same scores in each round (73-75-148), and trailed the San Francisco pair of Natasha Podmore (first, 71-72-143) and Danielle Cvitanov (72-75-147).
Edwards paced UO for the fourth and fifth times in her 11 collegiate rounds, while Little held similar honors for the 21st and 22nd time in her 56 career rounds for the Ducks.
On Monday, two other Ducks ranked top 20 overall in the 69-golfer field? senior Cathryn Bristow (19th-t, 79-76-155) and junior Felicia Eastick (19th-t, 78-77-155) ? while sophomore Erica Omlid also stood top 30 (26th-t, 77-82-159).
UO also had three players compete as individuals, and the trio all stood top 35 overall ? junior Kate Hildahl (13th-t, 77-76-153), senior Blair Ressler (26th-t, 79-80-159) and sophomore Monika Graf (33rd-t, 77-83-160).
Looking ahead, the Ducks return for a final round Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Results will be posted at the end of the round to the www.GoDucks.com website.
The Ducks are in position to claim another high finish in their lone home event of the 2008-09 season. UO won its first home tourney last year, finished second four times prior (1990, '99, 2004 and '05) and placed top five three other times - 1989 (fifth, 971),' 92 (fourth, 945) and '07 (fifth, 943).
