
Hasay Tops Talented Field to Win Women?s 1,500 at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. ? Freshman Jordan Hasay won the top section of the women's 1,500 meters in 4:14.67 to highlight Oregon's first day at the Stanford Invitational Friday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
The Arroyo Grande, Calif., native edged Washington star Katie Follett, who finished in 4:15.04, by less than half a second.
Hasay's time was just .17 off her personal best, 4:14.50, that she ran as a high schooler at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene. As it was, Hasay's first outdoor race as a Duck ranked fifth all-time on the school's 1,500 career list.
Also in the top section of the women's 1,500, freshman Anne Kesselring was fifth in 4:18.80, while senior Nicole Blood was sixth in 4:20.20 in her outdoor season debut. Kesselring's time was a personal best that ranked 11th in school history.
Junior Alex Wolff opened his 2010 season with a win in the men's javelin, throwing 229-7 to clip Chris Reno of Brigham Young by two inches.
Junior David Klech won the high jump with a clearance at 6-10.25, his best height since high school.
Two Ducks set personal bests in the men's 5,000 meters, including Jordan McNamara who was third in 13:45.45. That was a :24 PR for the senior from Auburn, Wash. Sophomore Matthew Centrowitz was fifth in 13:47.73, a PR by :02, while senior Michael Maag was next in 13:51.35 in his first distance race as a Duck. David McNeill of Northern Arizona won the race in 13:25.29 with Nike's Juan Carlos Romero second in 13:35.29.
Claire Michel was fourth in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:14.84. The junior from Clackamas, Ore., was a little more than a second off her own school record of 10:13.56 set at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
Eric Hersey PRd in the 400 meter hurdles for the second straight meet. The sophomore from Los Altos, Calif., won his section in 52.99, which ranked fifth overall on the day.
Junior Travis Thompson, from Newport, Ore., recorded a personal-best in winning his heat of the 400 meters in 48.10. That time was the third-fastest overall on Friday.
