2-Time All-American
Two-time All-American and a 2009-10 USA Track & Field Championships qualifier. Three-time Pac-10 scorer. Set three PRs in 2009 following surgery in 2007 and improved that to the fourth-best throw in school history (242-7/73.93m) in 2010. As a high school senior in 2005, ranked top-five nationally among preps and was a two-time, top-two Oregon state meet placer. Was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA due to medical hardship. 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America second team selection.
2010-11: Outdoors - Wrapped college season by making his fourth career NCAA Championships appearance in the javelin. Had a season best javelin throw of 241-10/73.72m at the NCAA West Preliminary meet (fourth) to advance to the NCAA Championships. Was victorious in his season debut in the javelin, taking the Stanford Invitational with a throw of 225-0/68.58m in rough weather. Improved season-best to 231-3/70.50m in a close competition at the Pepsi Team Invitational. Won the javelin in the UCLA dual (221-8/67.56m) to help the Ducks comeback and tie that meet. Also won the javelin at the Oregon Twilight (216-2/65.89m). Took fifth in the javelin at the Pac-10 Championships (225-9/68.81m). After the NCAA season, was 14th in the javelin at the USA Championships (229-0/69.81m). Pac-10 all-academic first team. Season Bests: Outdoors - Javelin - 241-10/73.72m, NCAA West Preliminary Meet, Eugene, Ore., (5/26/11).
2009-10: Outdoors - Ranked fifth in the nation in the javelin. Took fourth at the Pac-10 Championships (235-8/71.84m) to help Oregon win its fourth straight league crown. Strong opening to the season in winning the javelin at the Stanford Invitational (229-7/69.99m). Set first PR of the year in an exceptional javelin competition at the Pepsi Team Invitational. Finished third at 236-4/72.04m behind the top two collegiate throwers of 2010. Moved up the charts with another PR against UCLA (240-8/73.36m). That winning throw ranked fourth all-time at Oregon and helped the Ducks defeat UCLA. At the NCAA West Regional, finished sixth with a throw of 227-3/69.28m to advance to the NCAA Championships. There, finished 14th with a throw of 220-9/67.29m. Set third PR of the season at the USA Track & Field Championships, where he took fifth with a mark of 242-7/73.93m. Garnered a number of academic honors, including ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America second team, District 8 all-academic first team and Pac-10 all-academic first team. 2008-09: NCAA All-American and a Pac-10 scorer in the javelin in his first healthy full season at Oregon. Opened year with a personal-best throw at the Stanford Invitational of 224-11. Improved that by 10 feet a week later at the Pepsi Team Invitational with a second-place 234-4 effort. Won the javelin at the Sea Ray Relays in Konxville, Tenn. (231-0). Took second (229-10) to help Oregon defeat UCLA in their annual dual meet. Established third and final PR of the season in an impressive third-place performance at the Pac-10 Championships (235-5) that was good for six team points towards Oregon’s third straight Pac-10 Championship. Topped 70 meters again (71.16, 233-5) in a fourth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional to advance to his second straight NCAA Championships, where he earned his second career All-America award with a 10th place showing (219-11). Qualified for his first USA Track & Field Championships and took 15th (220-5) against a strong professional field. Pac-10 All-Academic second team. 2007-08: Still recovering from a 2007 injury, earned All-America status in the javelin with his seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships and was a key point-scorer for the Pac-10 Championship Ducks. Didn’t begin season until the Oregon-UCLA dual in mid-April where he took second with a then-personal best throw of 214-5 to help the Ducks win the meet. Found his groove in the championship season. Improved his season best to 219-3 to finish fifth at the Pac-10 Championships. Then, facing a preliminary elimination at the NCAA West Regional, threw another career-best, 219-9 to move on to the finals, where he improved on his mark again. Season-best throw of 220-2 was good for a sixth-place Regional finish and a trip to his first NCAA Championships. Continued dramatic performances at the national meet, where he needed a late throw of 220-1.5 to jump to seventh and earn his first career All-America award and score two team points. 2006-07: Competed twice in javelin before an arm injury sidelined him the rest of the season. Granted a medical hardship redshirt by the NCAA for the year. Season Bests: Outdoors - Javelin - 195-0, Oregon Preview, Eugene, Ore. (3/17/07).
2005-06: Redshirted. Competed once unattached during outdoor campaign in Oregon Preview (fifth, 193-5). Season Bests: Javelin - 193-3, Oregon Preview, Eugene, Ore. (3/18/06).
Prep: Won Oregon 4A state title as a senior in 2005 with personal best (213-5) and ranked fourth nationally after he missed part of the early season with a leg injury. Took second in state meet as a junior with a then-personal best (191-2) that tabbed him 30th nationally and third in the state rankings. Two-time all-league javelin choice. Lettered two seasons in football at inside linebacker and tight end, and was a first-team all-league pick. Salutatorian of his class and National Honor Society member.
