
Duck Lacrosse Loses to No. 1 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill.- The University of Oregon lacrosse team battled the top team in the country for only the second time in program history and fell 15-2 to No.1 Northwestern on Saturday morning at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.
The Wildcats (4-0) recorded five straight unanswered goals before the Jess Drummond broke up the shutout on a free position goal at the 14:11 mark after a foul by NU's Kat DeRonda.
Northwestern tallied one more goal to take a 6-1 lead into the half.
NU picked up where they left off in the second half by scoring seven straight goals before head coach Jen Larsen Beck lifted Caroline Federighi for Salliebeth Finnegan with a little under eight minutes left in the match and the Wildcats with a commanding 13-1 lead.
Northwestern tacked on one more goal before the Ducks (2-3) put up their last goal of the match off another free position attempt by Shannon Propst with 5:40 to go.
The Wildcats had 10 different players produce goals during the match with assists recorded on five.
Oregon attempted a season-low seven shots while Northwestern took an opponent-high 35 shots.
NU goalkeeper Brianne LoManto (4-0) picked up her fourth win of the season as Federighi (2-3) was credited with the loss.
For Drummond it was her sixth goal of the season and for Propst, her team-leading ninth.
UO has only faced one number one opponent one other time in program history and moves to 0-2 against those foes.
The Ducks will look to rebound on Mar. 10 at Pape' Field against Old Dominion at noon.
