Oregon Relays Friday Evening Session Quotes
Oregon Head Coach Vin Lanana
On day...
“The breeze down the back stretch was brutal for everyone, but we were
able work past it and I don't think it affected us too bad today.
On Jordan Hasay's race...
“It was a good race for her, a good start to her season. She was a
little flat, but that again has to do with the wind, but I am happy with
how she started and I believe she is also.”
Men's Triple Jump
1st Place- Brian Schaudt (Oregon)
On his winning jump...
“It was good, good conditions. I just executed what I practice. Coach
wants to keep me fresh for Pac-12's. I was only supposed to do one
jump.”
On his biggest improvement from last year...
“The progression in the triple jump. I've been getting the consistency to know that I have the ability to be jumping far.”
On the Oregon men's triple jump team...
“It's a treat to have six Oregon triple jumpers. It was like a jump
squad practice out there, just relax and execute. We were trying to get
the five-way sweep!”
On practicing with the triple jump teams...
“We really study each other in practice. It's special because we all have different strengths.”
Men's 200 Meter
1st Place (Heat 1) – Chris Stubbs (Oregon)
On the race...
“It
went pretty good for the first time on the track as an official Oregon
athlete. It gave me a boost. It was a good workout so I'm to going to
be to critical of myself.”
On recovering from injury...
“The
injury set me back a long way. I'm still in the mode of long strides.
The quick twitch feels like it's there, I just couldn't get it today.”
On his first official race at Hayward...
“It felt great besides the time. I had a bunch of family here to see me for the first time in the green and yellow.”
1st place (Heat 2) – Arthur Delaney (Oregon)
On race...
“I
got off to a great start and was happy all the way until the end, I
could have finished better. I lost my focus towards the end, I was more
focused on beating Mike Berry.
On beating Mike Berry...
“It
was really nice to beat Mike [Berry], not only is it good for me, but
its good for everyone else on the team. It makes everyone push that much
harder in practice.”
Women's 1500 Meter
1st Place (Fastest time 1500 in the World this year) Sally Kipyego (OTC)
On racing with Julia Lucas...
“We both have been training really hard for this race and the Stanford
race. It was nice having a teammate out there in front with me to help
me with my pace.”
On plans before the Olympic Trials...
“This and Stanford are my last tune up before I race the Trials at the
end of June. I am happy with where I am at right now and with the way
that I am going into the Trials.”
2nd Place- Julia Lucas (OTC)
On the race...
It was good, a 4:11. I thought it was going to be between 4:08 and 4:12 so I wasn't that surprised.”
On having Sally Kipyego as a teammate...
“It's such a fun race.
She's (Kipyego) the best teammate I could hope to have. To have the
opportunity to train with someone at such a high level.”
On the future...
“5K next week, this race was just about getting the cobwebs out.”
3rd Place- Jordan Hasay (Oregon)

was glad to be in such a good race, the quality of racers was extremely
high and I knew it was going to be fast. I was happy with my time and
finish especially with the way the race ended.”
On today's weather conditions...
“Today
was super windy, but one can not complain when it is sunny out. The
weather is setting up for a good weekend for running.”
Men's 1500 Meter
1st place- Tyler Mulder (OTC)
On race...
“Before
the race my calf was cramping up really bad and I almost scratched, but
we were able to work it out and it didn't affect the way that I ran out
there. I would have like to run a little faster, but overall I can't
complain about finishing first.”
On race tactics...
“I made my
move about 300 meters in, I didn't want to get the gears going to early
and not have enough left in the tank to finish off my last 100 meters.”
2nd Place – Chris Thompson (OTC)
On the race...
That
was quite a wake up. Its amazing what your body can do with adrenaline
and just trying to compete. That was amazing, that was perfect. It
sets up the 5K next.”
On challenging Trevor Dunbar...
“I knew what as an OTC group we
would do but it was brilliant to see him come around. This is tactical
stuff; it was good fun. Again, in the last 20m you're squeezing so much
out of your body. This was good training for me. Thoroughly enjoyable
for me.
3rd Place – Trevor Dunbar (Oregon)
On the race...
“I
was feeling good. I got out too slow in the first lap. I tried to go
and I was a little bummed I got pinned down. It was a good performance
going forward. My goal was to win but I'll take a third place to Mulder
and Thompson.
On the future...
“5K in the Pac-12's will be the focus.”
Women's Javelin
1st Place - Haley Crouser (Unattached)
On the Oregon Relays...
“A lot of emotion this week. I was happy to get the win and compete at Oregon. Now I'm just looking forward to State. The victory lap was pretty cool; I've never had one before and competing in front of the crowd.”
On the wind...
“It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty disappointing.”
Men's 5000 Meter
1st Place – Parker Stinson (Oregon)
On the race...
It was good. Russell Brown of OTC did a lot of work and then Luke did his job. It's my first time getting to do a victory lap so that was pretty cool.”
On how he feels about the season...
“I'm not running as fast as I would like but, I just need to keep putting in the work. I'm happy to get a win; I felt good out there. Hopefully I can use this as momentum because believe it or not, a championship season is right around the corner.”
