No. 11 Ducks Win First Set But Drop Match With No. 3 UW

EUGENE, Ore. — The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team took the first set from No. 3 Washington before dropping the match 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 on Sunday in Matthew Knight Arena.
How It Happened: The Ducks followed the early lead of Martenne Bettendorf, who had nine kills in Oregon's first-set victory. The Ducks trailed at couple different times midway through the set, then scored five of the final six points to break a 20-20 tie and go up 1-0 in the match. The Huskies commanded the second set start to finish to even the match. In the third set, Oregon used a 9-3 run to lead 11-8, but after clinging to a 14-12 lead, the Ducks saw UW mount a decisive 9-2 run. The Huskies led start to finish in the final set, scoring the first six points and forced UO to burn two timeouts before getting on the scoreboard.
What It Means: The Ducks (14-2, 3-2 Pac-12) have now dropped two matches on the season, to No. 1 Stanford and No. 3 Washington.
Notes and Numbers: Bettendorf led the Ducks with a career high 17 kills, on a .282 attack percentage. Liz Brenner posted her 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Up Next: Oregon goes on the road to face No. 17 UCLA on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. PT) and No. 20 USC on Friday (8 p.m. PT).
