Sardu Advances to Final of Larry Easley Memorial Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Daniel Sardu won his semifinal match in flight one of singles play Saturday at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. and will play in the championships match tomorrow morning.
How It Happened: Sardu, a senior from Sopron, Hungary, defeated Guy Iradukunda of Seminole State College 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. Jayson Amos also competed in the semifinals, but he fell to the No. 123-ranked Ace Matias of UNLV by a score of 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1.
In flight two of consolation singles play, Alex Marcinkowski took down Seminole State College's Keenan Dishman 6-0, 6-1.
Amos and Sardu competed in doubles quarterfinals and won over Adrian Legarreta and Philip Kuehnen of Grand Canyon 8-4. The pair moved onto the semifinals, but they dropped their match 8-4 to Boise State's Abe Hewko and Lewis Roskilly.
What It Means: Sardu now is 5-2 for the fall season. He already has two more wins than he did all of last fall season (3-2), and he will have a chance to claim the first tournament title of the year for the Ducks.
Even though Amos lost, the sophomore battled the entire match. He decisively claimed the first set 6-2 and just barely lost the second 7-6 (4).
Next Up: Sardu will vie for the flight one singles championship tomorrow morning against UNLV's Matias. Action begins at 10 a.m. with the doubles final and the singles final will follow shortly after.
