CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 13 Oregon volleyball team dropped its regular season finale against Oregon State, Friday, 27-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-12.

How It Happened: A razor thin first set resulted in Oregon State victory at 27-25, and while the margin was as close as it comes, the early 1-0 deficit has come with major implications this season. The Ducks are 16-2 this season when winning the first set but only 5-7 when losing it.

The Beavers piled on in the second set, hitting .381 on their way to a 25-18 victory, but after the intermission the Ducks came back with a renewed energy. The two teams were evenly matched but a 5-1 run ended the set in Oregon's favor, 25-21.

Oregon State killed any momentum with some vicious serving at the beginning of set four. The Beavers tallied seven aces throughout the match, four of which came in the final set.

What It Means: Heading into the match, Oregon State was the top vote-getter in the AVCA Coaches' poll not to be ranked in the top 25 the win could secure a spot in the NCAA tournament for OSU. With two losses against tough opponents this weekend, Oregon will be watching intently during the NCAA Tournament selection show, Sunday, to see if their path will start at Matthew Knight Arena.

Notes and Numbers: Martenne Bettendorf finished with a team high 21 kills…it is the second time in three matches Bettendorf has hit 20 or more kills…Amanda Benson led the team with 23 digs…Liz Brenner recorded nine kills and passed Michele Krebsbach for third on the Oregon all-time career kills list (1,596)…Brenner also passed Monica Camp for ninth on the all-time career digs list (1,114).
