Ducks Rack Up Another Runner-up Finish
03/11/15 | Women's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – Thanks to a solid final day (292), the Ducks earned a runner-up finish at the Bay Area Intercollegiate Tuesday morning in Fairfax, Calif., with a three-day total of 858 (6-over). The 858 is the Ducks' fourth-lowest tournament total in school history, and the second-place finish is UO's third top-two finish in a row.
Caroline Inglis led the Ducks with a 5-under 208, giving her a tie for third place. Her score is also tied for the sixth-lowest individual 54-hole tournament score in school history.
How It Happened: Even though Oregon's 292 was their highest round of the tournament, the Ducks' 8-over round was still fourth-best round for any team in the field in the final day.
Inglis played an almost flawless round of golf with just one bogey, two birdies and 15 pars on her way to a 1-under 70.
Even though Marcella Pranovia's score didn't count towards the team total, the sophomore tore up the back nine with four birdies en route to a 1-under 70 of her own. She finished tied for 12th (2-over, 73-72-70 = 215) – the next closest player competing as an individual tied for 36th (12-over).
Cathleen Santoso wasn't able to put together her third-consecutive under-par round with a 2-over 73, but the sophomore still finished in sixth individually with a 2-under 211 (70-68-73).
Cassy Isagawa improved a stroke in her final round with a 1-over 72, giving her a tournament total of 218 (73-73-72), good for a tie for fifteenth.
Kelsey Ulep fired a 6-over 77 (73-73-77 = 223) and Cali Hipp carded a 7-over 78 (74-71-78 = 223) to both finish tied for 28th place at 10-over par.
Washington ran away with the team title with an 18-under 834, and UW's Jennifer Yang and Colorado's Esther Lee tied for medalist honors at 7-under.
What It Means: The Ducks have finished in first or second place in three-consecutive tournaments. After this week's tournament, Oregon now has a team round average of 293.7. If the season were to end today, UO would have the new school record for team round average by almost four strokes (297.16 in 2013-14).
With Inglis' third-place finish, the Ducks have had a player finish in the top-three individually for three-consecutive tournaments. Inglis leads the Ducks with a 72.6 stroke average on the season.
Big Individual Days: Individually, Inglis' 208 and Pranovia's 215 were career-low tournaments, and Santoso's 211 and Isagawa's 218 were season-low tournaments for the four UO players.
Steady Play: Oregon led the field in pars with 177, with UW right behind them at 175. The Ducks are still scoring, however, as shown by the 38 birdies on the tournament – good for third in the field.
Quotable: Junior Caroline Inglis
“It was another solid finish in second for the team. I know we left some shots out there and we can continue to keep improving. For me, it was a good couple days of golf and I was able to make quite a few birdies. I am looking forward to seeing how far we can take it going into Maui and the rest of the season!”
Next Up: Oregon will take next weekend off and then prepare for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Bay Course in Kapalua, Hawaii, from Monday, March 23 to Wednesday, March 25.
