Ducks Utilize Moving Day, Jump Into Third Place
03/25/15 | Women's Golf
KAPALUA, Hawai'i – The Oregon women's golf team utilized “moving day” in the second round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic and shaved off 17 strokes from their first round score to finish the day with a 4-under 284. The Ducks are now in third place (585), just eight strokes shy of the leader, UC Davis (577).
How It Happened: Caroline Inglis paced the Ducks with a 4-under 68, making her the second Duck to fire a 68 (joining Cathleen Santoso) in the spring season. The Eugene native poured in six birdies, including four on the back nine.
Santoso turned in one of Oregon's three under-par rounds on the day with a 1-under 71. The sophomore turned in a fairly clean round with three birdies and just two bogeys on the day.
Cassy Isagawa carded a 1-under 71 of her own thanks to a steady diet of pars – 15 on the day. The Wailuke, Hawai'i, native's 71 was her second-lowest score of the spring season.
Kelsey Ulep capitalized on a strong back side to finish the latter nine with a 2-under 35, giving her a 2-over 74.
Marcella Pranovia poured in five birdies of her own in the second round to also finish with a 2-over 74. Pranovia has improved her score over the course of a tournament from one round to the next in every tournament this spring.
Cali Hipp carded a 9-over 81 as an individual.
Individually, Inglis is third in the field with a 143 (-1) and Santoso is tied for fifth with a 145 (+1). Andrea Wong of UC Davis is currently in the lead at 5-under.
Career Day for Inglis, Ducks Crack Record Book Again: The junior's 4-under 68 is the lowest single round score of her career. As a team, Oregon's 284 is tied for the 10th-lowest team round in school history. Earlier this year, the Ducks shot a 284 in the second round of the Peg Barnard Invitational, and 281's in the final round of the Westbrook Invitational and the second round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate.
Back Nine: Starting on holes 6-10, the Ducks compiled 11 birdies on the par-37 back nine and took advantage of three par-5's on the side to bolster their round. Oregon only recorded two bogeys on the entire back nine.
Mission Accomplished: Oregon used the second round to get themselves within striking distance of the two teams ahead of them – UC Davis (577) and Texas (582). The Ducks' four-spot jump was the biggest improvement for any team in the field from day one to day two.
By The Numbers: The team is second in the field for total birdies with 29 … Inglis is tied for the individual lead in tweeters with nine … Santoso is tied for lead in the field on the par-4's (-2, 3.87 avg.) … Pranovia is tied for the lead in playing the par-5's at 6-under (-6, 4.40 avg.) … the Ducks are first in the field on the par-4's (+10, 4.13).
Final Round: Oregon will attempt to surpass the Aggies and Longhorns tomorrow morning when they tee off at 7:45 a.m. (HT) for the final round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. The Ducks will play with players from UC Davis, Texas and San Jose State.
