EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon managed just one run on two hits and dropped game one of the three-game series with Michigan State, 2-1, in 11 innings on Friday at PK Park

How It Happened: With the score tied at 1-1 in the 11th inning, Garrett Cleavinger (1-1) allowed a leadoff walk to Anthony Checky and Michigan State (13-14) brought him in with a sacrifice bunt and a RBI single down the left-field line to go ahead 2-1.

Oregon (18-13) got on the board first in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Austin Grebeck. The Ducks loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single by Jakob Goldfarb. Mark Karaviotis added the only other Oregon hit in the fourth inning.

The Spartans worked a leadoff walk off of reliever Josh Graham to start the eighth inning. Stephen Nogosek then came on and allowed a pair of base hits to tie the game 1-1.

Irvin Bounces Back: After failing to make it out of the second inning last week, Irvin rebounded to hold the Spartans scoreless over 5.1 innings while allowing just three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The left-hander recovered from a rocky first inning in which he loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batters. Irvin lowered his ERA to 3.52.

Offense Sputters Again: After a hot start to the season, Oregon's offense has struggled mightily in recent weeks and did so once again on Friday. Oregon struck out a season-high 15 times and stranded 10 runners. The Ducks' first five hitters combined to go 0-for-20 with nine strikeouts.

Odds And Ends: Austin Grebeck picked up his 12th RBI of the season with the sixth inning bases loaded walk … Nogosek allowed just two hits over three shutout innings while walking three and striking out five … Graham allowed one run over 1.2 innings and struck out three … Karaviotis reached base three times, working two walks to go along with the fourth inning single.

Up Next: Oregon and Michigan State will face off in game two of the three-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m. at PK Park. Conor Harber (3-1, 3.86) is set to take the mound for the Ducks against Cam Vieaux (1-4, 2.83).
