Ducks Hit 14 Threes for Rare Win in Seattle
01/04/17 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE —Despite having Jordan Bell in the locker room with an injury and three players on the bench in serious foul trouble, No. 15 Oregon (14-2, 3-0) went on a 21-9 run over the final 6:05 of the first half and ran away from Washington 83-61 Wednesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. It was the Ducks' first win in Seattle in four years.
How It Happened: It was a focused effort from the backcourt and the bench that spurred Oregon's 21-9 run. Dylan Ennis scored six points, Tyler Dorsey added five, Payton Pritchard and Roman Sorkin each added three and Dillon Brooks and Keith Smith both scored two. Much of that run took place with Bell being examined in the locker room after knocking knees with Ennis, and Brooks (three fouls), Chris Boucher (two fouls) and Kavell Bigby-Williams (two fouls) benched with foul trouble.
Washington (7-7, 0-2) closed to within three, 42-39, in the opening minutes of the second half, but Oregon responded with a 13-4 run and the rare rout in Seattle was on.
Who Stood Out: Dorsey led the charge with 28 points, including a career-best eight three-pointers. He finished off the Huskies by making his final six field goal attempts, five of which were from downtown. Thanks to Dorsey, the Ducks shot a season-best 53.8 percent from three-point range (14-of-26).
Bell was the only other Duck in double figures with 10, but he did get his second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Oregon also got a big lift from its reserves. Oregon's bench outscored the Huskies 21-9, including seven points from Boucher and six from Seattle native Keith Smith.
What It Means: Oregon won its first true road game of the season in a place where it had won just four times in the last 20 years. It was also the Ducks' 12th consecutive win. A game after coach Dana Altman picked up his 700th career victory, the University of Oregon notched the 1,600th win in program history.
Quotable:
Head coach Dana Altman
On overcoming foul trouble and the injury to Bell:
"Different guys stepped up. It was really great to have everybody make contributions."
On extending the lead in the second half:
"When we got that lead, we just didn't exchange baskets, we made it tough on them."
Notable: Bell left the court after knocking knees with Ennis midway through the first half, but returned in the final minute of the period before going on to record a double-double. … Oregon's 12-game winning streak is its longest since a 13-game winning streak to open the 2013-14 season. … Dorsey's eight three-pointers were the most by a Duck since Tajuan Porter set the school record with 10 versus Portland State (11-12-06). … Oregon's last victory in Seattle was Feb. 13, 2013 (65-52).
Up Next: The Ducks travel to the Palouse to face Washington State on Saturday (4 p.m., Pac-12 Networks).
