Ducks Announce 2019 Track and Field Schedule
10/23/18 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field team is announcing its 2019 schedule which begins Jan. 12 in Seattle. The Ducks are in their seventh season under the direction of head coach Robert Johnson.
"It's always exciting when we get to announce the track and field schedule," Johnson said. "This season will definitely be unique with no home meets with the construction at Hayward Field but it's a challenge we'll embrace as we compete at some of the best meets across the country. The goals remain the same and this schedule was put together to put our student-athletes in the best position to compete for and win national championships."
INDOOR
Oregon will open the 2019 track and field season Jan. 12 at the UW Preview in Seattle, the first of three indoor meets in the Emerald City. The Ducks are then set to travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational (Jan. 25-26) for an early season scored meet.
The first split weekend of the year (Feb. 8-9) takes Oregon to the Husky Classic—back in Seattle—and the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
The indoor postseason begins Feb. 22-23 with the MPSF Championships in Seattle, a final tune-up for the NCAA meet. National qualifiers are announced the following week with focus turned to the NCAA Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The national meet will be contested March 8-9.
OUTDOOR
For a second-consecutive season, the outdoor campaign begins with back-to-back meets in California with the SDSU Aztec Invitational (March 22-23) and Stanford Invitational (March 29-30). When the calendar flips to April, the Ducks will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Angel Classic (April 5-6).
Following a week off from competition, Oregon will stack a pair of split weekends in preparation for the postseason. The team's sprint and field crews will head to the Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-20) while the distance crew will compete at the Cardinal Classic (April 19-20) hosted by Stanford.
The Ducks will then take on the OSU High Performance meet in Corvallis and the Desert Heat Classic. Both events are scheduled for April 26-27. In its regular-season finale, Oregon will travel up Interstate 5 for the Portland Twilight on May 3.
The Ducks' postseason begins at the Pac-12 Championships where the Men of Oregon have won 14 of the last 16 team titles including 12 in a row. This year's conference meet will be held May 4-5 (Multis) and May 11-12 at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.
Based on qualifiers earned in the previous two months, Oregon and the rest of the region returns to Sacramento, Calif., for the NCAA West Preliminary (May 23-25) which serves as the gateway to the national meet. The NCAA Championships (June 5-8) begin a two-year run at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The 2019 track and field season extends into the summer with the USA Championships (July 25-28) in Des Moines, Iowa, and deep into the fall months with the IAAF World Championships (Sept. 28-Oct. 6) in Doha, Qatar.
