
Ducks Welcome Recruiting Class of 10

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon women's soccer program has signed 10 players to National Letters of Intent, head coach Kat Mertz announced Friday.
Included among the 10 are four players who have played on junior national teams – Hailey Coll, a goalkeeper from Eugene (Sheldon High School), Maya Hahn, a midfielder from Eastbourne, New Zealand, Caitlin Shaw, a midfielder from North Vancouver, British Columbia, and Sakura Yoshida, a midfielder from Redmond, Wash.
Hahn and Shaw are currently in Uruguay participating in the U17 Women's World Cup.
The rest of the class includes forward Ally Cook (Coto de Caza, Calif.), midfielder Maggie Lacey (Central Point, Ore.), forward Lilli Rask (Tustin, Calif.), defender Jordan Snyder (Mercer Island, Wash.), defender Croix Soto (Pasadena, Calif.) and midfielder Sofia Viñas (Calabasas, Calif.).
"We're very excited to get started with this talented group of young women," said Mertz. "As a class they embody the qualities that make up the foundation of Duck Soccer.
"Their commitment in the classroom and on the playing field will help push our program to the top of the Pac-12. I am looking forward to the quality soccer our program will be playing next year with the help of these young women."

"The campus and surrounding community have the outdoor feel that I was looking for in a school. My third key factor was strong academics and a nationally recognized university. Maya Hahn

Captain for two games at the 2017 Oceania U16 Championships (World Cup qualifiers) and received the Golden Ball for player of the tournament ... Named New Zealand's soccer player of the year in 2016 and 2017 and overall sportsperson of the year in 2017 ... Named team MVP at the National Tournament in 2015 and 2016 ... Participated on the Capital Football team in the National Women's league since 2016 and participated in the Capital Futsal National Women's league in 2018 ... Earned young player of the year after her club team, Wellington United, reached the final of the Kelly Cup in 2017.
"I liked the way the team played and I could see the program heading in a positive direction," said Hahn. "The high level of academic support for student athletes gave me the impression that I would be looked after in both aspects of my college life."
Maggie Lacey

"I loved the soccer program," said Rask. "Ever since I was a little kid I always dreamed and envisioned myself playing soccer at the University of Oregon. My mom and grandparents went to school here. And my grandfather played basketball here!"
Caitlin Shaw
5-6, M, North Vancouver, B.C., Burnaby Central Secondary School, Club Team: Vancouver Whitecaps

North Shore Athlete of the Year in 2016 and 2017 ... Finalist for the U17 Canadian player of the year ... Gained experience with the U15, U17, and U20 Canadian National Teams ... Went to the 2016 U15 CONCACAF Championships, U17 World Cup, 2017 U17 Four Nations Cup, and the 2018 U17 World Cup.
"I want to go to Oregon because I was so impressed with the positive environment the campus provided as well as the amount of resources available to all student athletes," said Shaw. I always wanted to play in the Pac-12 Conference and believe Oregon is a natural fit for me."
Jordan Snyder

"The campus was beautiful and the athletic facilities were totally mind-blowing," said Snyder. "The overall experience of touring the campus and meeting the people was very warm and welcoming. I could really picture myself at Oregon when I was walking through the campus and the school seems like a great fit for me."

"Sakky is relentless in her pursuit to get to a next level and challenge her game," said Reign Academy technical director Kim Calkins. "She arrives to Reign training before any other player and is always the last to leave, putting in as much work as she can because of her love for the game. She is no stranger to a top level national competitive environment and excited for the opportunities she is awarded."
