Ducks Send Three to ITA National Tournament

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team will put a wrap on its fall season with three Ducks at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz. The prestigious event begins Wednesday at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. Oregon will be represented by Joshua Charlton, Emmanuel Coste and Thomas Laurent.
Wednesday Schedule
Singles – First Round
Thomas Laurent (UO) vs Alex Brown (Illinois) – 11 a.m.
Emmanuel Coste (UO) vs Jan Zielinski (Georgia) – 12:30 p.m.
Doubles – First Round
Thomas Laurent/Joshua Charlton (UO) vs Andrea Bolla/Tim Ruehl (Arizona State) – 5 p.m.
Laurent, the No. 8 player in the ITA preseason poll, is seeded fifth at this week's tournament. The senior Duck qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships with his quarterfinal appearance at the ITA All-American event in early October. Wednesday's first-round matchup against Illinois' Alex Brown will be Laurent's 100th singles match at Oregon.

Laurent and partner Joshua Charlton swept their way through the ITA Northwest Regional to claim the doubles title and qualify for the national event. The duo's run included a win over the 27th-ranked team of Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer of Washington.
Coste enters the tournament having won nine of 10 matches this fall including his last eight. He earned his national spot by winning the ITA Northwest Regional singles title. Coste is the program's first regional singles champion since 2004 (Swinnen).

Junior Ty Gentry won the singles title at the Duck Invitational with a straight-set win over Carlos Donat of Portland. Oregon completed the event sweep with a doubles win by Armando Soemarno and Charles Roberts. It was the second doubles title of the fall season for Soemarno and Roberts.
