Hot Shooting Ducks Dominate UC Irvine

EUGENE, Ore. – Sabrina Ionescu posted a triple-double for the second straight day and the No. 7 ranked Oregon women's basketball team topped UC Irvine, 115-69, on Friday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks (11-1) closed out their non-conference schedule by matching their season-high in points. Oregon shot 64.0 percent from the field as Ruthy Hebard and Maite Cazorla tallied double-doubles in addition to Ionescu's 14th career triple-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.
"I'm really proud of the team," said acting head coach Mark Campbell. "It was a unique week having an 11 AM tip-off and a noon tip-off on back-to-back days with limited prep time."
BACK-TO-BACK TRIPLE-DOUBLES: This is the second time in Ionescu's career where she's posted a triple-double in back-to-back games and the 10th time in NCAA history...Youngstown State's Danielle Carson had an NCAA record three straight triple-doubles in 1985...Ionescu previously had back-to-back triple-doubles against Drake (Nov. 12) and at Texas A&M (Nov. 16).
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks started the game 7-of-7 from the floor and led UC Irvine, 16-10, midway through the first quarter. The Anteaters hit a couple deep threes in the final minute of the first and Oregon led by just two, 28-26, going to the second. Oregon was 12-of-15 from the floor in the first.
The Ducks started to pull away in the second quarter. It was tied, 34-34, with 4:43 left before halftime when UC Irvine hit a three. But Oregon closed out the second on a 17-6 run to take a 51-40 lead into the locker room. Hebard had a double-double at halftime with 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting and 10 rebounds. Cazorla was also in double figures scoring with 10 points and five assists.
Oregon used a 10-0 run to push its lead to 63-42 with 7:08 left in the third. The Ducks outscored UC Irvine, 33-14, in the third quarter while going 14-of-19 shooting.
Oregon had an even bigger run to start the fourth quarter, outscoring UC Irvine, 18-0 over the first three minutes. Ionescu buried a three to open the quarter, giving her a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
BOX SCORE: While Ionescu's 14th career triple-double stole the show, Hebard, Cazorla and Satou Sabally had big days for the Ducks. Hebard went 11-of-12 from the field for 23 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year. Cazorla also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists while Sabally had 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting with six rebounds and three assists.
UP NEXT: Oregon will have a nine-day holiday break before playing an exhibition game on Sunday, Dec. 30 against Concordia of Portland. The Ducks open up Pac-12 play with Washington on Friday, Jan. 4 at 6 PM on Pac-12 Networks.
