No. 6 Ducks Run-Rule Weber State

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Mary Iakopo crushed a grand slam in a big fourth inning and the No. 6 ranked Oregon softball team run-ruled Weber State, 9-1, in five innings on Friday night at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Ducks (19-4) won their home debut after Thursday night's game against Toledo was rained out.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Weber State took an early 1-0 lead after an Oregon error allowed the Wildcats drive in an unearned run on a RBI single in the second.
The Ducks left five runners on base and didn't score over the first three innings but finally broke through in the fourth.
After DJ Sanders and Lauren Lindvall both singled with one out, Haley Cruse dropped down a bunt single and an errant throw allowed Sanders to score from second. With the game tied up, 1-1, Jenna Lilley delivered with a two-run single up the middle to make it a 3-1 lead for the Ducks. Alexis Mack and Gwen Svekis each drew walks around a Mia Camuso flyout to load the bases with two outs. That's when Iakopo mashed a full count grand slam to left center to give the Ducks a commanding 7-1 lead.
Lindvall and Cruse opened the fifth with back-to-back singles before Weber State made a pitching change. After Cruse stole second, Lilley lofted a sacrifice fly to left to score Lindvall from third. Mack followed with a single to left and the left fielder threw the ball away for an error, which allowed Cruse to come home for the game-ending run.
IN THE CIRCLE: Maggie Balint started for the Ducks and allowed one unearned run on three hits and one walk in five innings with six strikeouts. She dropped her ERA to 1.37 on the season.
AT THE PLATE: Jenna Lilley went 2-for-2 with three RBIs while Haley Cruse and Lauren Lindvall both went 2-for-2…Iakopo had all four of her RBIs on the fourth inning grand slam.
UP NEXT: The Ducks play two games tomorrow as the Oregon Invitational rolls on. Oregon meets Weber State again at 5 PM before playing Montana at 7 PM.
