Ducks Fall At No. 12 Stanford 17-9

STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team could not contain No. 12 Stanford's high-tempo offense in the early going Sunday afternoon, eventually falling to the Cardinal 17-9 at Cagan Stadium.
How it Happened: The Ducks (8-7, 4-5) and the Cardinal traded goals to open the game with senior Jill Zubillaga opening the scoring for UO at the 27:20 mark.
Stanford then proceeded to take control outscoring the Ducks 7-1 over the next 14 minutes.
SU's Kelsey Murray netted four of the Cardinal goals, with senior captain JoJo Hesketh scoring the lone goal for UO midway through Stanford's run.
The Cardinal netted two more goals before the half was over, bookended by scores from Lexy Biller and Natalie Modly, whose goal with 40 seconds remaining sent Oregon into halftime trailing 10-4.
The Ducks committed 13 turnovers in the first half, finishing with a season-high 21 for the game.
Stanford added to their lead in the opening minutes of the second half, going on a 4-0 run to take a 14-4 lead and establish a running clock.
Oregon went back-and-forth with Stanford's 10 goal lead throughout the remainder of the game getting as close as eight following Zubillaga's second goal of the game to make it 14-6.
Stanford's Mikaela Watson answered with back-to-back goals to regain SU's running clock.
The Ducks closed out the game scoring the final two goals, capped off by Hesketh's fourth of the game with 30 seconds left to earn the final score of 17-9.
Stanford finished the game outshooting the Ducks 41-28.
Who Stood Out: Hesketh has now scored at least four goals in three of the last four games … Zubillaga tied her season-highs in shots (11) and draw controls (8) against the Cardinal … Despite recording the loss, goalkeeper Brittany Read recorded her eighth game this season with double-digit saves, finishing with 11.
