FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Rhesa Foster inched closer to Oregon's 21-foot club Friday evening with a win in the long jump at the Razorback Invitational. On the men's side, the Ducks were led by a pair of 25-foot, personal-best efforts by Tristan James and Spenser Schmidt.
The Razorback Invitational continues Saturday at 9:25 a.m. PT and will be televised on the SEC Network beginning at 11 a.m. The three-hour television window will feature prelims and finals of the 60-meter sprint events and invitational sections of the 400 meters, 800 meters, mile, 3,000 meters and 4x400-meter relays.
Oregon secured a 1-2 finish with Foster and senior Chaquinn Cook who was competing in her first indoor long jump. On her third pass down the runway, Foster measured in at 6.36m/20-10.5 which improved upon her previous best from last year's Dr. Sander Invitational. Cook finished with a best of 6.15m/20-2.25 in preparation of Saturday's triple jump where she is the school-record holder.
James had three jumps over 25 feet Friday including his personal-best mark of 7.79m/25-6.75 in the fourth round. Schmidt's series featured his first-career jump over 25 feet with his second-round effort of 7.67m/25-2 which moved him into a tie for seventh on the UO all-time indoor list. James will be back in action Saturday in the triple jump while Schmidt will turn his attention to 60 meters.
In the Ducks' first win of the day, the quartet of Blake Haney, Jacob Miller, Reed Brown and James West combined for an early season 9:36.21 in the distance-medley relay. All four—Miller (400m), Haney and West (800m) and Brown (mile)—are scheduled to return to the track Saturday in individual events.
That performance stands as the fastest in the nation based on times entering the weekend, and prior to Friday night's DMR sections at the UW Invitational in Seattle.
Notable: Sophomore Keira McCarrell posted a personal-best score of 3,685 in the pentathlon … she had a PR in each of the five events Friday and moved to No. 7 on the program list … freshman Pierce LaCoste sits in fourth place after day one of the heptathlon … redshirt sophomore Maddie Rabing added more than a foot to her personal best in the weight throw (19.47m/63-10.5) for a third-place finish … Cravon Gillespie (21.22) and Iman Brown (23.57) were the Ducks' top performers at 200 meters.
