Gillespie Earns Second Conference Honor
04/30/19 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – For a second time this season, redshirt senior Cravon Gillespie has been named the Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The Pasadena, Calif., native broke the Oregon school record at 200 meters to cap a three-win performance at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
Â
In the Ducks' final event of the weekend, Gillespie crossed in a time of 20.23 to replace the previous mark of 20.27 set by Kyree King in 2017. Gillespie's time is No. 1 in the Pac-12 and ranks fourth in the NCAA this season. He also won the 100 meters in 10.11 to establish a new wind-legal personal best, which moved him into a tie for second on the UO top-10 list.
Â
Gillespie was also part of the Ducks' victorious 4x100-meter relay with Rieker Daniel, Oraine Palmer and Spenser Schmidt. The quartet got the baton around the track in a season-best 39.02, good for the No. 2 relay performance in program history. That time is also tops in the Pac-12 and No. 5 in the NCAA.
Â
Earlier this season, Gillespie was selected Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week (March 26) following his 10.04w performance at the SDSU Aztec Invitational. That time currently ranks third in the nation.
