Following a familiar theme during the week, the Ducks' field events got the day started with Cook and Ellis advancing in the triple jump. Cook shook off a first-round foul with a season-best 13.53m/44-4.75 on her second attempt to clinch her third-consecutive NCAA appearance. Ellis, one of two freshman to qualify, used a personal best (12.94m/42-5.5) on her opening jump to advance to the national meet.
Both UO 4x100-meter relays secured automatic qualifying spots by winning their respective heats. The men's teams of Schmidt, Gillespie, Shellmire and Palmer combined for a 39.03, the second-fastest time of the day. The Women of Oregon got the baton around the track in 43.59, the No. 3 qualifying mark in the field.
Hull continued her NCAA title defense by winning the first of two heats in 4:09.90, a season best. That time doubles as the No. 8 time run at any NCAA Championships round. She had run 4:12.08 earlier this season as a season best at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Brown will represent the men at 1,500 meters in Austin. He crossed in a time of 3:42.28 to grab the final on-time qualifier.
The Men of Oregon advanced two in the 12-man field of the 110-meter hurdles. Edwards finished as the second-fastest qualifier in 13.60, just off his personal best (13.59) from the Pac-12 Championships. He'll be joined by Anderson who posted a personal-best 13.80 to secure his first trip to the NCAA meet.
Back on the track after helping the men's 4x100-meter relay advance, Gillespie and Palmer each turned in qualifying performances at 200 meters. Gillespie is a 100/200 national qualifier for a second-straight year. Running in the first of three heats, Palmer matched his lifetime best of 20.56 to get an automatic time qualifier.
The final individual qualifier of the meet was Teare at 5,000 meters. The Pac-12 champion finished third in his heat (13:46.92)—and overall—to clinch his second appearance at the NCAA Championships.
In the final event of the day, the women's 4x400-meter relay team registered a season-best 3:30.36 which was the third-fastest time of the night. It marked the third qualifier for both DesRosiers and D'Arpino who were also part of the 4x100 earlier in the day and individually qualified at 400 meters Friday.
