Seven Ducks Advance at USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The Ducks advanced seven runners into the semifinals on day one of the 2019 Toyota USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Among that group, Cravon Gillespie (100m), Venessa D'Arpino (400m) and Briyahna DesRosiers (400m) are coming off their respective senior seasons with the Oregon track and field program.
Raevyn Rogers was the top qualifier (2:01.77) in the opening round of the 800 meters. She is making her third appearance at the USA Championships; she was the runner-up last year.
In the 100 meters, English Gardner (11.28) was one of two former Oregon standouts along with Jenna Prandini (11.41) to secure a spot in the semifinals. Gardner, a two-time USA champion at 100 meters, posted the second-fastest time of the day. Gillespie (10.29) was third in the opening heat, automatically qualifying for the next round.
The top eight from the semifinal heats will advance to Friday evening's finals at 5:44 p.m. and 5:53 p.m. (PT), respectively.
Three Ducks are moving on in the 400 meters with DesRosiers (52.02) and D'Arpino (52.97) finishing among the top three in their heats and Marcus Chambers (45.62) crossing third in heat three of the men's event

In the decathlon, Mitch Modin is in 10th place through five events with 3,885 points. The two-day, 10-event competition resumes Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles. Friday's schedule is also set to feature the opening round of the men's 1,500 meters.
