Ducks Win At No. 4 UConn, 74-56
02/03/20 | Women's Basketball
No. 3 Oregon handed 11-time national champion Connecticut its worst home loss in Gampel Pavilion since it opened in 1990 on Monday, and first since 2013.
STORRS, Conn. — In a nationally televised showdown between teams with national championship aspirations, the No. 3 Oregon women's basketball team trailed for only 27 seconds and won 74-56 at No. 4 Connecticut on Monday night.
All five UO starters scored in double figures, and the Ducks forced 15 turnovers while limiting the 11-time national champion Huskies to 39 percent shooting. Ruthy Hebard had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Oregon, and Satou Sabally also had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
"I'm really proud of this group," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "It's not easy to come into Gampel (Pavilion) and play a great team, but I think we took control early and maintained it."

How It Happened: Connecticut scored to open the game, but the Ducks answered with a 10-0 run and never trailed again. Erin Boley had two three-pointers during the run, and Hebard began to establish her presence in the post. Hebard scored again late in the first quarter and Sabally finished it with a three-pointer for a 22-12 lead.
The Huskies got going from three-point range to keep the game close in the second. A free throw by Hebard put Oregon up 27-14, but UConn hit three-pointers on four of its next six possessions and closed within 34-28. Sabrina Ionescu stanched their momentum with a jumper, and Hebard scored on back-to-back possessions late in the half for a 44-30 lead.
"Three games in five days on this road trip, I didn't know what kind of legs we would have," Graves said. "But I thought that first quarter we really just set a great tone for a well-played, hard-fought game."

Hebard scored on consecutive possessions again early in the third quarter to put Oregon up 50-34 and force the Huskies to burn a timeout. A basket by Sabally, a three-pointer by Ionescu and another field goal by Sabally put the Ducks up 59-39, their largest lead of the game. The lead was 64-49 entering the final period.
The Ducks went cold to open the final quarter, making 1-of-8 as UConn closed within 69-56. But Hebard stabilized the Ducks with a three-point play for a 72-56 lead, and Minyon Moore had a basket late while also battling for some key loose balls as Oregon held on.
Who Stood Out: Hebard made 10-of-14 field-goal attempts, and also blocked two shots. Sabally had five offensive rebounds among her 10 rebounds overall. Boley made 5-of-7 attempts for 13 points, Moore had 12 points with six assists and Ionescu nearly recorded her 24th career triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

What It Means: It's only one game, but the Ducks reinforced their ascension to among the national elite and validated their status as an NCAA Championship contender.
"We're still the up-and-comer," Graves said. "I see all the banners up there; I counted 11. We don't have any. They're still the standard by which everyone is judged, and they should be."
Up Next: The Ducks return home to host Arizona on Friday (6 p.m. PT, Pac-12 Network).
