Four Ducks Named Academic All-District

EUGENE, Ore. – On the strength of their work in the classroom, University of Oregon track and field student-athletes Carmela Cardama Baez, Rhesa Foster, Max Vollmer and James West have earned spots on the 2019-20 Academic All-District 8 Team as selected by CoSIDA.

Having collected first-team honors, all four Ducks will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America selections for Division I are scheduled to be announced Thursday, June 25. Cardama Baez is now a two-time member of the academic all-district team.

Each member of the UO quartet was also an All-American for their respective performance on the track as qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Championships this past March.

- Six-time All-American including twice in cross country
- 2019 NCAA Championships runner-up at 10,000 meters
- 2020 MPSF champion (DMR/anchor) in 10:59.39, the No. 9 time in UO history
- School-record holder at 5,000 meters (15:25.41, indoors)
- Ranks among Oregon top 10 in 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters(o) and 10,000 meters
Rhesa Foster
- Three-time All-American; No. 3 national qualifier in the long jump
- Two-time Pac-12 champion (long jump) in 2017 and 2019
- 2018 MPSF champion (long jump) as a sophomore
- Ranks No. 2 indoor and No. 4 outdoor in UO history in the long jump
- Also ranks among Oregon top 10 in 60m hurdles and 100m hurdles
Max Vollmer
- Two-time All-American; finished fifth (decathlon) at the 2019 NCAA Championships
- 2019 Pac-12 champion (decathlon) with 7,964 points, the No. 6 score in UO history
- 2020 MPSF champion (heptathlon) with 5,834 points, the No. 3 score in UO history
- Qualified for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships in the heptathlon
James West
- Seven-time All-American including three certificates during the 2020 indoor season
- 2020 USTFCCCA West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
- Lead-off leg of Oregon's collegiate-record DMR (9:24.52) in January 2020
- Ran fastest indoor 1,500m in collegiate history (3:36.93) in February 2020
- Ranks among Oregon top 10 in 1,500 meters, mile and 3,000 meters
