No. 5 Oregon beat No. 2 Azusa Pacific on Friday at Matthew Knight Arena.
EUGENE, Ore. — A matchup of top-five programs lived up to its billing Friday at Matthew Knight Arena, as No. 5 Oregon and No. 2 Azusa Pacific went back and forth throughout their meet before the Ducks used a season-best performance in the team event to clinch the win, 280.850-279.780.
Oregon (2-2) won for the second meet in a row, improved its overall score for the second meet in a row and set season highs in four of the six events.
"I think today boosted their confidence 100 percent," UO coach Taylor Susnara said. "We increased our start values for this meet, and it paid off for us."

How It Happened: The Ducks set the tone from the start, recording their best compulsory score of the season, thanks to season highs in three of the four heats. Those season highs included scores of 9.950 in both the pyramid and the toss, for a lead of 38.800-38.150 after one event.
Despite a season-high 9.85 in the 5-element heat of the acro event, the Ducks were outscored in the event to fall behind overall, 67.500-67.450. But Oregon inched back in front after the pyramid event, scoring no worse than 9.750 in any of the three heats to take the lead, 96.900-96.600.

Again the Cougars had an answer, taking a 125.700-125.350 after the toss event even though Oregon had season highs in two of the three heats. But the Ducks were outstanding in the tumbling event, with season highs in four of the six heats to edge back in front, 183.00-182.850.
"We really worked on our mindset this week, of just 'one thing better' — one little detail better in each event," Susnara said. "They definitely showed that today. Anything that went wrong, they played it like nothing happened and kept going."

The Ducks had one more season-best performance left, scoring 97.580 in the team event to maintain their lead and clinch the meet.
Up Next: The Ducks complete at Quinnipiac on Sunday, April 3, at 10 a.m.
