Jorinde Van Klinken set the NCAA record in the indoor shot put Saturday in Albuquerque.
EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of a collegiate-record performance at the Don Kirby Invitational, Jorinde Van Klinken has been named USTFCCCA co-National Athlete of the Week.
Now a two-time collegiate-record holder, Van Klinken moved to the top of the all-time indoor shot put list with an historic toss of 19.57m/64-2.5 this past weekend in Albuquerque. The mark also established a Dutch national record, improved upon her own school record and currently stands as the No. 3 throw in the world this year.
Van Klinken's series during Saturday's competition also featured measures of 18.87 and 18.99 meters in the second and third rounds, respectively, before the record-breaking throw on her fifth attempt of the day. With the effort, she slides by Ole Miss' Raven Saunders (19.56m/64-2.25) who had held the record since 2017.
Prior to the Don Kirby Invitational, Van Klinken was the No. 6 all-time collegiate performer with a best of 19.08m/62-7.25 from last year's NCAA Indoor Championships. She is also the collegiate-record holder in the discus.
A native of The Netherlands, she is the reigning NCAA indoor champion in the shot put and a member of The Bowerman mid-indoor watch list. Van Klinken began her career at Arizona State before transferring to Oregon for the 2023 season.
Van Klinken is the first UO woman to earn USTFCCCA weekly honors since Susan Ejore was recognized during the cross country season in 2018. Overall, Tuesday marks the ninth time the Women of Oregon have garnered National Athlete of the Week accolades.
She shares this week's honor with Katelyn Tuohy of NC State who set a collegiate record of her own in the 3,000 meters at the Millrose Games.
