Sweep Complete, For Second Straight Week

Oregon softball has swept back-to-back Pac-12 series and won nine games in a row overall after Sunday's 7-4 win over Arizona.
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon has a nine-game winning streak and has swept consecutive Pac-12 series for the first time under head coach Melyssa Lombardi after a 7-4 victory Sunday over Arizona before 1,803 fans at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The No. 17 Ducks (31-11, 11-7 Pac-12) trailed for the first time in the series, falling behind 4-0 through three innings Sunday. But they rallied to win, taking the lead with a four-run sixth to enter the final two weeks of conference play in fourth place.
"That was big for us," Lombardi said. "It's hard to get wins in the Pac. It's hard to get sweeps in the Pac. Nothing comes easy."
After the top of the order set the tone earlier in the series, Oregon's 3-7 spots in the order Sunday went 7-for-14 for seven runs and seven RBIs. The Ducks used three pitchers for the second day in a row, with Morgan Scott (10-4) picking up her second win of the series.

"Everybody is contributing in one way or the other," senior infielder Allee Bunker said. "Our pitchers are doing well, our defense is making the plays that we need to make, and our offense is just, one through nine, really solid — and people coming off the bench are doing their job. So I think as a whole we're just doing a good job passing the bat; we're not relying on the same couple people. It's just everybody."
How It Happened: Two singles and an error loaded the bases for Arizona with one out in the second, and another single made it 1-0 and ended the day for UO starting pitcher Raegan Breedlove. Another single off Stevie Hansen made it 2-0, and a sacrifice fly gave the Wildcats a three-run lead before the Ducks got out of the inning.
A solo home run gave Arizona a 4-0 lead in the fourth, and Scott came on to get Oregon out of that inning. The Ducks got going in the bottom of the inning, which Bunker and Terra McGowan opened by singling. Two batters later, Ariel Carlson roped her second homer in two days into the netting behind left field, and Oregon was within 4-3.

"Sunday is the hardest day to come out and take a win from somebody, and we acted like this was a regional and you've got to win to stay and continue on your season," Bunker said. "And so that's what we took to heart. We had to come out and score runs to win, so that's what we did."
Again in the sixth, it was Bunker and McGowan who got the Ducks going by reaching to lead off the inning. After Carlson walked with one out, Kedre Luschar was hit by a pitch to force in a run and tie the game.
Lombardi then called upon pinch-hitter Karissa Ornelas, who drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in Friday's 8-0 win. Ornelas jumped on the second pitch she saw and drove it down the right-field line for a three-run double, breaking the game open. Ornelas matched her career high with the three RBIs, giving her nine RBIs on five pinch hits this season.
"My team does a great job communicating in the dugout," Ornelas said. "I always go up to lefties — or even the righties — seeing what the pitcher's doing, or what she throws in a certain count, and we take charts in the dugout. So (I'm) just looking at that, and just being ready at all times."

In a coincidence, Scott allowed a leadoff single in the seventh for the third time in three games in the series. But, also for the third time, she retired the final three hitters in order to preserve the UO victory.
Notable: The Ducks swept Arizona for the first time since the 2018 season. … The last time Oregon swept both Arizona schools in the same season was 2016. … Bunker scored the 156th run of her career, putting her in the UO top five in career runs along with hits, doubles and RBIs. .. The Ducks turned their 18th double play of the season, which leads the Pac-12. … McGowan finished the series 6-for-8 with five runs, six RBIs and 1.375 slugging average.
Quotable:
Senior infielder Allee Bunker on the resolve the Ducks demonstrated
"It was nice for us to be tested early in the season, because when you get to postseason teams are going to be tough and teams are going to put runs on the board against you. And so being able to show early on that we can come from behind is really good. And it kind of just goes to show how confident we are in each other. We just stay calm in those big moments."
Head coach Melyssa Lombardi on getting contributions up and down the lineup
"You know, the game doesn't know your batting average, the game doesn't know if you're on a streak, the game doesn't know if you're in a slump. It just doesn't. Getting into the end of Pac, getting into the postseason, anybody can get hot. Anybody can come up and be big. It's just trusting and believing and sticking together as a team."
Up Next: The Ducks open a four-game road trip at Pacific on Thursday (4 p.m, ESPN+) before play a weekend series at California beginning Friday.
