No. 11 Oregon hosts 16th-ranked USC Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon volleyball team, ranked 11th in the country for a third week in a row, hosts No. 16 USC on Wednesday evening at Matthew Knight Arena. Through two weeks of Big Ten play, both teams carry a 3-1 league record into the midweek matchup. The Oregon-USC match starts at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
Wednesday also marks the beginning of a "Mighty Big Week" in Eugene that also features home dates for the UO cross country, football and soccer and softball programs. The volleyball team also hosts No. 24 Washington (Oct. 13) in the weekend finale.
Series History vs USC
Oregon has won eight of the past 11 meetings with USC including a four-set win last season in Eugene. In that match, Mimi Colyer had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while Daley McClellan picked up seven digs to go along with two aces. In the recent history between the teams, the Ducks have won 12 of 21 dating back to 2012. That figure accounts for more than half of the team's wins in the all-time series (20).
How They Rank
Entering Wednesday's match, Oregon ranks among the top 20 nationally in blocks per set (fourth, 3.06), hitting percentage (19th, .278) and opponent hitting percentage (20th, .152). Setter Cristin Cline is fourth in the Big Ten and 23rd in the NCAA with 10.48 assists per set. In the middle, Onye Ofoegbu ranks in the top 10 of the league in both hitting percentage (.419) and blocks per set (1.33).
Last Time Out
The Ducks had their 11-match winning streak snapped by way of a sweep at No. 3 Penn State. Michelle Ohwobete had 10 kills while hitting .350 to go along with eight digs, three blocks and an ace. Oregon hit a season-low .075 against the Nittany Lions in its first Big Ten loss of the season.
Serving a Purpose
Junior Maya De Los Reyes had two aces in Oregon's match at No. 3 Penn State. It was her third match of the season with two service winners. She is up to nine aces this year, just shy of becoming the fifth Duck to reach double figures in the category. De Los Reyes tallied her first-career ace against Long Beach State (Sept. 1).
First B1G Road Win
Oregon hit .340 and served up eight aces to sweep Ohio State (Oct. 3) and secure the program's first Big Ten road win. Mimi Colyer and Noemie Glover had 16 and eight kills, respectively, and Cristin Cline filled the box score with 37 assists, five digs, three kills and a career-high three aces.
