12/10/24 | Women's Volleyball
Junior OH Mimi Colyer is the 2024 AVCA Northwest Region Player of the Year.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon volleyball team collected six AVCA all-region accolades including Northwest Region Player of the Year honors for Mimi Colyer. The Ducks put five on the all-region team with Colyer, Cristin Cline, Mackenzie Morris, Onye Ofoegbu and Michelle Ohwobete with an honorable mention pick for Noemie Glover.
Oregon's six all-region picks are the second most in the country, trailing only Pittsburgh's seven.
The Ducks' postseason run continues Thursday afternoon with a regional semifinal at No. 1 overall seed Pitt. First serve is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2. Oregon beat High Point and TCU to advance to the second weekend of the 2024 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
With Tuesday's honor, Colyer earns the second all-region superlative of her career having been named the Pacific North Freshman of the Year in 2022. She joins past Oregon standout and former teammate Brooke Nuneviller as the second region player of the year in program history; Nuneviller was the 2021 Pacific North Player of the Year.
Cline (all-freshman), Colyer (first team), Ofoegbu (first team) and Ohwobete (second team) earned All-Big Ten honors last week.
Colyer is now a three-time all-region selection while Morris, Ofoegbu and Ohwobete each earn their second all-region nod, and first with the Ducks after being selected at their previous schools.
During the NCAA first and second rounds in Eugene, Colyer and Ohwobete paced the Ducks with 3.86 and 3.00 kills per set, respectively. Colyer had 19 kills while hitting .333 in Oregon's second-round win over No. 20 TCU. Ohwobete posted a double-double against the Horned Frogs and had eight aces over the opening weekend of the tournament including a career-high five aces against High Point.
Ofoegbu led the UO offense with a .516 hitting percentage last weekend including a .750 performance with 12 kills on 16 errorless swings in a sweep of High Point. Cline recorded a pair of double-doubles in the opening-round wins including a 40-assist, 13-dig outing against TCU.
Morris had 15 digs, a season-high eight assists and two service aces in the Ducks' four-set victory over TCU, and helped spearhead the defense that held the Horned Frogs to a .156 hitting efficiency. Glover put away 11 kills in the opening-round win over High Point and added seven more against TCU.
New this year in conjunction with continued conference realignment, the AVCA placed its programs in 10 regions based on state lines instead of league affiliation. Oregon, formerly part of the Pacific North region, is now in the Northwest Region with other programs from Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington.
