KEEP THE BALL ROLLING
After a dominant performance against Youngstown State to begin the Jessica Drummond era, Oregon lacrosse looks to capitalize on the season-opening victory as it hosts Saint Francis on Friday night. This is the first meeting all-time between the Ducks and the Red Flash, who are opening their season in Eugene. A victory on Friday would give Oregon its first 2-0 start to a season since 2018.
GOALS ON GOALS ON GOALS
The Oregon offensive attack was in full form in the season opener against Youngstown State, scoring 19 times to earn a double-digit victory. It was the first time since 2020 the Ducks had scored at least 19 goals, having scored 20 on two different occasions that season. Seven different Ducks scored multiple goals on the night with Haley Cummins, Rachel Pallo and Anna Simmons each grabbing a hat trick.
Senior midfielder Morgan McCarthy is back for her senior season after becoming the first Duck to be named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team in back-to-back seasons. McCarthy was also named an All-Pac-12 second-team selection for a second consecutive season after leading Oregon with career-highs in goals (37) and points (40).
Avery Young and Lexi Jenkins, a pair of freshmen, were in the starting lineup when they made their collegiate debuts last Friday. Young looked comfortable in the attack, logging an assist and a goal while putting each of her four shots on frame. Jenkins held her own on the defensive end of the field, scooping two ground balls and causing a turnover while playing a matchup-defender role.
Oregon goalkeeper Thayer Hubbard did not start in the season opener against Youngstown State, but was a standout performer after stepping into goal in the second quarter. Hubbard made four saves in the game, allowing just three goals in over 36 minutes of play to shut down the Penguins' offense. Hubbard also scooped four groundballs on her way to earning her first-career win.
