Ducks Post Road Sweep at Portland State
09/18/24 | Women's Volleyball
No. 12 Oregon improves to 7-1 ahead of Sunday's non-conference finale against Oregon State.
PORTLAND, Ore. — The No. 12 Oregon volleyball team pushed its winning streak to seven Wednesday, picking up a straight-set road win (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) over Portland State. Onye Ofoegbu led Oregon with eight kills—hitting .727—and five blocks while Colby Neal and Michelle Ohwobete each had seven kills against the Vikings.
Â
Collectively, the Ducks generated a .301 hitting percentage while holding Portland State to a .087 mark.
Â
How It Happened: Portland State (1-9) led 18-17 but the Ducks, with senior Daley McClellan at the line, rattled off seven of the next eight points in the decisive first-set surge. McClellan capped the run with a service ace, giving Oregon the 24-19 advantage. On their third set point, the Ducks clinched the opener when a Portland State serve landed in the net.
Â
Oregon hit .375 in the first set to overcome seven service errors. McClellan finished with 11 digs.
Â
Back-to-back kills from Ohwobete and Noemie Glover gave the Ducks a 10-6 cushion in the second. The lead grew to 18-10 after Sophie Gregoire, celebrating her birthday, served up an ace for the largest lead of the frame. Oregon withstood a late, five-point run by the home team—UO led 22-21—but never fell behind and Gregoire posted the final tally thanks to a PSU net violation.
Â
Looking to avoid a sweep, the Vikings jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the third. Oregon answered with a 5-1 run and took its first lead of the frame at 11-10 with a solo block by Gregoire. The Ducks extended their lead to 18-14 on the heels of a trio of Portland State miscues. Neal put down her penultimate kill of the night for a 20-16 lead and on a second match point, Gregoire knocked down her fourth kill to close out the straight-set win.
Â
Up Next: The Ducks close out their non-conference slate Sunday afternoon with a home match against Oregon State (1 p.m., B1G+). Oregon plays its next three matches at Matthew Knight Arena including its first weekend of Big Ten play against Illinois (Sept. 27) and Indiana (Sept. 28).
