The Ducks erased an 0-2 deficit for the first reverse sweep since 2022. With Friday's win, Oregon is 11-2 overall with a 2-1 record in Big Ten play.
Â
The Ducks' home weekend continues Sunday against Illinois (11-3, 3-0 B1G). First serve is set for 1 p.m. Single-match and season tickets for all Oregon home matches are currently on sale.
Â
Junior outside hitter Sjakkie Donkers continued standout play with a season-high 23 kills coupled with 13 digs for her third-consecutive double-double. Fifth-year setter Marina Crownover finished the night with 47 assists and 10 digs, good for her team-leading fifth double-double performance of the season. Sophomore Alanah Clemente filled the box score with 15 kills, eight digs, six blocks and a service ace.
Â
Behind the block, sophomores Reese Sheppard and Maila Ribeiro tallied 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
Â
Friday was the Ducks' first five-set match of the season but the third-consecutive five setter between Oregon and Purdue.
Â
How It Happened: In the decisive fifth set, the score was tied at 7-all when the Ducks won five of the next six points for a 12-8 lead. Oregon took advantage of four Purdue miscues during the stretch and arrived at match point—14-9—on the final kill of the night from Clemente, a back row thump off the Purdue block. On the ensuing rally, the Ducks completed the rally when the visitors were called in the net.
Â
The program's last reverse sweep was Nov. 20, 2022, over USC also at Matthew Knight Arena.
Â
Purdue (8-4, 1-2 B1G) out-hit the Ducks, .296-.205, through the first two frames which led to Oregon's first 0-2 deficit of the season.
Â
Despite dropping the second, Oregon saved three set points to energize the 3,111 fans in attendance and seemed to take some momentum into the third with an early 7-3 lead after a kill from Clemente. The visitors responded to take a 15-14 advantage into the media break. Out of the huddle, the Ducks rattled off the next five points to take control of the set.
Â
The Boilermakers pulled to within one—UO up, 20-19—after an out-of-rotation ace but Donkers took over with three-straight kills and after a kill from Dalia Virlan, the Ducks led 24-19. On a second chance to get on the match scoreboard, Oregon got another kill from Donkers to secure the frame.
Â
Donkers had nine kills with no errors on 13 swings (.692) in the third set.
Â
In a turn from the previous set, Purdue took a 7-3 lead in the fourth after a kill by Sydni Vice. The Ducks began to chip away and tied things up at 10-all with a second-touch kill by Crownover but for the fourth time in as many sets, the Boilermakers led at the media break and was the first team to hit 20 after a kill out of the middle.
Â
Purdue eventually led 22-20 but Oregon ended the set on a five-point run, capping the surge with a kill from Clemente. The UO sophomore had six of her 15 kills in the must-win fourth
