Weekend Road Trip to Colorado State

Oregon opens the Ram Volleyball Classic Friday evening against host Colorado State.
EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of a home split to start the season, the No. 12 Oregon Volleyball team hits the road to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Ram Volleyball Classic. The Ducks start their weekend against host Colorado State Friday evening at Moby Arena. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. (PT), streaming for free online via the Mountain West Network.

Oregon will also play Grand Canyon and Central Arkansas during the three-day round robin.

Series History vs Colorado State
Friday's match will be just the third meeting between Oregon and Colorado State, and first since 2011. The Ducks swept CSU in the first meeting in 1984 and the Rams picked up a five-set win in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament in Hawai'i.

Familiar Face in Fort Collins
Now in her second year as a Colorado State assistant coach, Sonja (Newcombe) Anderson was a 2009 All-America Second Team performer during her Oregon playing career (2006-09). She ranks among the program's top 10 in career kills (1,580) and digs (1,233). In 2021, Anderson was inducted into the UO Athletics Hall of Fame.

Grand Canyon is one of three first-time opponents for Oregon this season, along with Big Ten teams Indiana and Maryland.

Oregon owns a 1-0 advantage in the limited history between the two programs. The Ducks swept UCA in 2014, a 3-0 victory during the season-opening weekend in Eugene.

The Ducks shook off a season-opening loss to No. 4 Pitt with a straight-set win over Long Beach State (Sept. 1) at Matthew Knight Arena. Directed by 41 assists from redshirt freshman Cristin Cline, the offense generated a .375 hitting percentage while holding LBSU to a .081 efficiency. Oregon was aided by 10.0 total team blocks and seven aces.

Neal Sets a New Standard
Junior middle blocker Colby Neal established an Oregon single-match record with a .929 hitting percentage against Long Beach State (Sept. 1). The previous record of .917 was shared by Serena Warner (2014) and Karson Bacon (2023). Neal had a career-high 13 kills on 14 errorless swings, replacing her old best of 12 from 2022.

Coming Up Aces
The Ducks served up seven aces in their straight-set victory over Long Beach State (Sept. 1) including two each from Maya De Los Reyes and Michelle Ohwobete. The two service winners by De Los Reyes came during an 8-0 run in the first set. Mimi Colyer, Daley McClellan and Mackenzie Morris also had a service winner against LBSU.

First Line of Defense
Oregon enters the weekend fifth in the Big Ten and 15th in the NCAA with 3.17 blocks per set. Individually, junior Colby Neal is fourth in the conference and 15th nationally with 1.83 blocks per set. Teammates Noemie Glover and Onye Ofoegbu each average 1.17 blocks per set.
