Ducks Sweep UCA in Weekend Finale

No. 12 Oregon improved to 4-1 with Sunday's win over Central Arkansas.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The No. 12 Oregon volleyball team capped a 3-0 road weekend with Sunday's straight-set win over Central Arkansas (25-12, 25-11, 25-17) at the Ram Volleyball Classic. Mimi Colyer and Michelle Ohwobete led the way with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
In a balanced effort, the Ducks posted a .360 hitting percentage while holding UCA's offense to a -.011 efficiency with the help of eight total team blocks and strong service pressure. Oregon had six service aces in the sweep.
Ohwobete added a match-high 12 digs to complete the first double-double effort of her Oregon career. She hit .435 on 23 swings against the Sugar Bears. Colyer posted a .379 hitting percentage on 29 swings to go along with seven digs and three blocks. Onye Ofoegbu closed out her standout weekend with nine kills (.438) and five blocks.
How It Happened: Mirroring its strong start to Saturday's match, the Ducks (4-1) hit .542 in the opener. Oregon used a seven-point surge to turn a two-point lead into a 16-7 advantage, capping the push with a tandem block featuring Onye Ofoegbu and Cristin Cline. On its second set point, UO clinched the 1-0 match lead with a UCA service error.
Cline finished the match with 30 assists, five digs, three aces and a block. Makenzie Morris, who was at the service line during the Ducks' first-set run, had five digs and two aces.
Central Arkansas (1-5) rattled off the first four points of the second but, after a pair of timeouts, Oregon responded nine of the next 10 points to seize control. Back-to-back aces from Cline forced UCA to call a timeout of its own with the Ducks doubling the lead to 16-8. Oregon closed out the set winning the final four points including a kill from Ofoegbu and an ace from Daley McClellan.
Looking for its first sweep of the weekend, the Ducks found themselves tied with Central Arkansas, 10-10, before streaking out a 16-11 lead. The surge featured two kills apiece for Colyer and Ofoegbu. Mia Tvrdy, a freshman middle, registered her first-career block—alongside Colyer—for a 20-15 lead. Six of Ofoegbu's nine kills came in the third frame including the match-winning tally.
Up Next: Oregon is back on the road next weekend for two matches in San Diego, taking on No. 14 BYU on Friday and the host Toreros on Saturday. The Ducks' next home match is Sunday, Sept. 22, when the team hosts Oregon State in the final non-conference match of the season.
