01/24/25 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon women's tennis team continued its strong start to the spring season with its third consecutive sweep, a 7-0 victory over Seattle Friday at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with doubles victories on courts one and two, as both the top two UO duos remained unbeaten. Patsy Daughters and Karin Young, playing at No. 1, improved to 3-0 with their 6-3 win, while Candela Aparisi and Marjorie Souza clinched the point with their 6-4 win. Aparisi and Souza are now 2-0 this spring and 5-0 when paired together including the fall season.
"It started with the doubles tonight. Seattle challenged us from the start. Seattle played with a lot of energy," head coach Courtney Nagle said. "Getting through that doubles point was great for us and we carried that energy into the singles."
In singles, the Ducks promptly won the first four singles matches to seal the team victory, winning in straight sets at Nos. 3-6. Freshman Bridget Mihulka claimed UO's second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-0 win, her first collegiate victory.
Daughters, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, grabbed the third point of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles, and the decisive fourth point was earned by Tilde Jagare on court five, 6-2, 6-1.
The remaining matches were played out, with sophomore Candela Aparisi winning on court four, 6-0, 7-5. Young, playing at No. 2 singles, eased by in her match 6-2, 6-4 and Marjorie Souza sealed the sweep in a third-set tiebreak, 6-4, 0-6, 11-9.
Souza picked up her first dual victory of the year, while Aparisi and Young each collected their second.
"I hope to see our team continuing to thrive in those moments when the pressure is on," Nagle added. "Everyone is watching and there are more fans in the crowd. We have some players that really feed off energy."
The Ducks finish the weekend on Sunday at the Student Tennis Center against Long Beach State (11 a.m.).
